In this post, you’re gonna learn my formula for achieving glowing skin with The Ordinary Products.
This post is also great for people who have dry dehydrated skin like me or just want that glowy/dewy/shiny look.
I recently rejoined the Deciem Chatroom Facebook group; one of my favourite forums on the internet. One of the first inquiries I saw was;
Which of the ordinary products are good for very dry skin? Also I want a shiny/glow skin.
I quickly jumped into the comment section with the most recent portrait of my bare skin.
I also shared my formula, which I currently use to achieve glowing skin.
Of course, I decided to share it here on the blog as well.
To backtrack a little, the concept of glowy or glass skin if you wish came from Korean Skincare.
They were the first to popularise this skincare trend.
Which relied heavily on using hydrating toners and essences as well as the 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine to create a glass skin.
Over time, after tweaking my skincare routine, I realised that I didn’t need all of the ten steps.
I just needed a perfect formula. I’ve been using that formula for over a year now across three seasons; spring, autumn and winter. You can check out my current winter skincare routine.

My Formula for Achieving Glowing Skin with The Ordinary Skincare Products
Now, it’s essential to understand that you can’t just layer products anyhow you like.
As there is a particular sequence to follow to get the best results.
There are three key The Ordinary products that you will need:
- The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid
- The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors
- The Ordinary Plant-Derived Squalane
Step 1
I assume you have cleansed your skin with a foaming or gel cleanser (depending on your skin type) for sixty seconds.
I also assume you have toned your skin with a hydrating, alcohol-free toner.
If you haven’t, this is a crucial step.
You need to use a hydrating toner to tone and dampen your face.
This will be a base for the first product required for your glowing skin.
Yes, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid (buy here or here) received a lot of backlash when it was released because people didn’t know how to use it well.
Again, the first step after toning your skin with a hydrating toner is applying a layer of Hyaluronic Acid.
Not too little, not too much, just enough to go around your face.
Apply it with your fingertips and tap it in until your entire face is saturated.
Step 2
The next step is to moisturise.
You have cleansed, toned and hydrated.
Now, you need to seal it all in with a highly effective moisturiser.
I’m currently on my second bottle of The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors (buy here or here), and it’s not gonna change anytime soon.
It works for my dry skin for all seasons except Summer.
You just need to press a little product into your palm and go around your face.
Remember your face has been hydrated with the toner and Hyaluronic Acid.
You’re just using the moisturiser to prevent it from drying out or evaporating.
Step 3
The Ordinary Plant-Derived Squalane ( buy here or here) is lowkey one of the brand’s best products.
It doesn’t make so much noise but is incredibly effective.
I think I’m on my third bottle right now.
That’s how much it has become a staple in my routine.
Now that you have toned, hydrated and moisturised, you must finish with Squalane like the icing on a cake.
Here, all you need to do is apply a drop of Squalane all over your skin.
You don’t need too much; otherwise, you will look shiny.
You need just a little to complement your moisturised skin.
One or two drops usually do the trick.
Finish up with this, and you’re good to go.
Don’t forget to use your sunscreen if you’re going outdoors or if it’s sunny indoors.
This is how simple it is to achieve glowing skin with The Ordinary products.
If you’re anything like me, who is obsessed with hydrating, you’ll be including a couple of Korean essences between steps 1 and 2.
Now that you have it go forth and glow!…..literally!
