This post will be discussing my current spring skincare routine.
I don’t know about you but I’ve been so damn lazy with my skincare routine since lockdown began. Just like my sleep and work routines have gone off the window; my skincare routine is still the only one that I’ve managed to hold on to. While everyone is excited about not wearing makeup and finally having time to fix their skin, I’m less bothered. This is because
- I haven’t worn makeup in about 6 months so my skin is in pretty great shape.
- I have a solid routine already. Easing up or being lazy with it will have little or no side effects.
For the last two weeks, I’ve been doing my full regular winter skincare routine every other day. Although, I’ve split my entire routine into AM and PM, I still found it tedious but more convenient to do it every other day. Then I noticed that I started to breakout. So, I decided that it was time to switch completely to my spring skincare routine. Plus the weather has been so nice and warm that I no longer feel the need for my entire routine. A simple one would actually suffice plus we’re also on lockdown. But the challenge now was to simplify my fall/winter routine.

How to Transition from a Winter to a Spring Skincare Routine
The first thing was to swap the thick products particularly my moisturiser for a light one. If you have been following my blog long enough, you would know that my staple moisturiser is The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors. It’s such an amazing moisturiser that serves me well during the cold months.
The next thing I did was to take out unnecessary layers of products. For winter, I always layer up to 4 hydrating products because of my dry dehydrated skin. But now, I don’t need that much anymore since the weather is warmer. So I took out my The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid and my Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner and was left with just one essence and one serum. The former doubles as a toner as well. Of course, since we’re mostly outdoors, I also took out my sunscreen. While some people are of the school of thought that you should wear sunscreen indoors, I think it is relative. It depends on whether or not you constantly expose yourself to the sun indoors. I don’t because I don’t want to wear sunscreen.
Another thing I did to cut down the layers of products I used was to find a multipurpose product. So instead of using my regular essence and serums, you would see shortly that I opted for sheet masks. These would solve my hydration concerns at a go without the need for other products. So, some nights rather than layer hydrating products, I just chose a sheet mask and called it a night.
Full Spring Skincare Routine (Lockdown PM)
When I wake up in a good mood or on the right side of the bed during lockdown; here’s how my routine looks like:
- Cleanse: I still use my Neutrogena Hydroboost water gel cleanser. This works for me for the all the seasons so I don’t bother swapping it.
- Exfoliate: These days, I use more of The Ordinary Glycolic Toning Solution because I’m trying to finish the bottle. It’s been almost a year since I bought it and I don’t want it to go bad. On the weekends, I do an exfoliating mask with The Ordinary AHA/BHA Peeling Solution. When I’m breaking out, I use my Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid or spot treat with my Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant.
- Toner/Essence: I stopped using my toner because I dropped my Hyaluronic Acid. I just use my Hada Labo Premium which doubles as a toner and essence.
- Serum: Just to add an extra layer of hydration because there’s no such thing as too much moisture; I use the Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum. I got the travel size to try out and I’m loving it so far.
- Treatment: No matter how bad it is, The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin will also be a staple. This is because it takes a long time to get results so I’d rather not skip it at all.
- Facial Oil: As always, I finish up my routine with The Ordinary Plant-Derived Squalane for that glow and dewy look. If you ever see my skin dry, bland and not glowing, just know that something is wrong.
- Moisturiser: Instead of a regular moisturiser, I finish up my spring skincare routine with the Cerave Healing Ointment. I still have mixed reviews about this product. It’s supposed to be an amazing emollient but it has just been really basic for me. Anyway, I typically use it after my AHA/BHA Peel during the weekends. It really helps soothe my skin. But somehow I found myself using it during my regular routine. Anyway, I’m gonna find a proper moisturiser and manage the Cerave ointment since it’s scarce here in the UK.
Lazy Spring Skincare Routine (Lockdown PM)
Remember what I said about my new lazy skincare routine? Yep! Let’s get into it!
- Cleanse: For this routine, I cleanse with my Simple Micellar Cleansing Water for Dehydrated Dry Skin. I was so happy when I found this product at Tesco. Regular micellar water usually leaves my skin dry and striped. But this one does the opposite. It cleanses my skin without stripping it. After cleansing my face with cotton pads, I go in with plain water. I hope you know that Micellar Water is literally soap. So you should be rinsing or wiping your face afterwards.
- Sheet Mask: I stopped using my sheet masks during the fall/winter. Instead, I used them to hydrate my skin on flights. But now that I’ve gotten so lazy, they’re literally saving my skin. After cleansing, I wear a sheet mask for about 15 to 20 minutes, take it out and tap the essence in. That’s enough moisture for a night.
- Moisturiser: You don’t want all of that moisture to evaporate by the time you wake up. So I moisturise with any light product. Right now, I’m leaning towards the Innisfree Green Tea Seed Cream because it is so lightweight and sinks right into your skin.
- Treatment/Facial Oil: I finish up this lazy routine with The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil. Before Alpha Arbutin, Rosehip oil was the OG for hyperpigmentation. So, I’m happy to combine it as a treatment and facial oil. Of course, it leaves my skin dewy!
In conclusion, I’m happy that I’ve gotten a hang of my spring skincare routine. I would really hate to come out of this lockdown with bad skin.
