This post will share my first impressions of the Cerave Blemish Control Range.
I can’t remember the last time I was excited about a product range.
erave finally released the U.S. version of the Acne Control Range in the U.K.
Even though we didn’t get the 4% Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser, I’m still ecstatic.
This is because it is the first time we’re getting various products besides staple cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreens.
Cerave products are well-loved and widely received because they work across most skin types.
The formulas are gentle, even for sensitive skin. It is no wonder people like me eat up any new release.
Most of the time, Cerave has stuck to essential hygiene products and barrier repair.
But now, they’re gradually venturing into treatment serums, and I’m honestly here for it.
So far, I’ve only used the Blemish Control Cleanser, which I’ve already reviewed, but I thought I’d give my first impressions before I review the rest of the line.
I need time to use them properly to provide an in-depth review.
Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser
I’m particularly excited about this cleanser because it is the first time we’re getting a 2% Salicylic Acid cleanser from Cerave.
The previous cleanser has 0.5%, so this is a nice change.
It is also formulated with Niacinamide and Hectorite Clay, both great for oil control.
The Hectorite Clay is particularly great for absorbing oil, so if you have oily skin, you must jump on this right now.
It is also slightly hydrating enough to work for normal to dry skin.
How To Use
Whilst reviewing it, I used it twice daily, which was fine.
But that is because my skin barrier is intact, but I can’t say the same for others.
So, if you’re using this cleanser for the first time, I suggest you start a few times a week.
Then, you can build a tolerance to use it once daily.
Also, ensure you’re doing short contact therapy while using this cleanser.
This means leaving it on your skin for 2-3 minutes before rinsing off. This way, your skin can benefit fully.
Cerave Blemish Control Gel
This is supposed to be a gel moisturizer that reduces blemishes and improves the look of pores.
I don’t consider it a moisturizer because it is simply not moisturizing enough, particularly for my dry, dehydrated skin, so it is more or less a serum to me.
Also, calling it a moisturizer means it is safe to use daily, which it is absolutely not.
This gel serum is formulated with the trinity of exfoliation, which is Glycolic, Lactic and Salicylic Acids.
It is also paired with Niacinamide, Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid, which is quite frankly a chef’s kiss.
So, if you’re struggling with breakouts and uneven texture, this product is for you.
How To Use
Before introducing this product to your routine, you must ensure you’re not using any other exfoliating product with Glycolic and/or Lactic Acids.
So, you either finish them up or use the rest on your body.
Multiple exfoliating products simultaneously is the fastest way to destroy your skin barrier.
Depending on how well your skin tolerates acids, you should start using this product 1- 2 times a week in the PM.
You can definitely use it after the Blemish Control Cleanser, but if it is too much for your skin, replace the cleanser with the Cerave Foaming Cleanser.
Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum
It’s finally nice to access this Retinol serum after being in the U.S. market for years.
I was almost about to buy an overpriced one on Amazon when this launched, saving me nearly £10.
So yeah, I’m thrilled to use it.
This serum is for anyone struggling with dark spots, post-acne marks and mild to moderate hyperpigmentation.
It is formulated with Niacinamide, Retinol and Liquorice Root Extract, all great ingredients for fading dark spots.
Combined with Hyaluronic Acid and the three essential Ceramides, you have a gentle, non-drying formula that works across all skin types.
Like all other Retinol serums, you must be patient and consistent to give it time to work.
Use it for six to twelve weeks before concluding on its effectiveness.
How To Use
Like the Blemish Control Gel, you must start slowly and work up to daily usage.
Start with 1-2 times a week and watch how your skin reacts.
It goes without saying that you shouldn’t introduce both the Blemish Control Gel and the Resurfacing Retinol Serum simultaneously.
Heck, you shouldn’t even start them together with the Blemish Control Cleanser.
Start slowly and introduce one product at a time after three to four weeks.
The Cerave Blemish Control Routine
This range is for you if you struggle with acne and your skin is easily prone to hyperpigmentation.
It has the right ingredients to tackle breakouts, texture and pigmentation without compromising your skin’s barrier.
So, if you decide to use all three products together, here’s a routine you can follow:
AM:
- Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser
- Cerave Blemish Control Gel x 1-2 times a week.
- Cerave Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF 50
PM:
- Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser or Cerave Foaming Cleanser if you’re sensitive.
- Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum
- Cerave Moisturizing Lotion
If you have an existing Cerave routine, you can switch out your PM treatments with the Blemish Control Range. So it will be;
- Cerave Blemish Control x 3 times a week
- Cerave Acne Control Gel x 2 times. a week
- Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum x 2 times a week.
Finally
If you’re tired of layering multiple serums and you just want to simplify your routine whilst also treating your skin concerns, then this Cerave Blemish Control range is for you.
