This post will review the Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream.
The other day, I was researching all the facial moisturizers in Cerave’s portfolio when I stumbled on this one.
I remember seeing it before but not paying attention because it wasn’t as popular as the Cream Moisturizing Lotion and Moisturizing Cream.
It turns out this product is pretty popular with a certain demographic.
Out of curiosity, I picked it up to see if it differed from the other moisturizers I’ve used.
I’m also trying to use many more anti-ageing products in my routine.
Plus, I’ve never tried a Peptide moisturizer, so I definitely had to try it.
Like I always say when reviewing Cerave products, once you have tried a few of them and your skin likes the formula, you’re most likely able to use most, if not all, of the products in the portfolio.
Cerave uses the same formula across the board.
As a result of the products being formulated by dermatologists, they have ensured that they can be used across all skin types with little to no irritations.
This moisturizer is under the Cerave Anti-Ageing line, which also has a few other products, including the Cerave Vitamin C Serum I’m using.
If I wasn’t using Tretinoin, I’d probably be using one of the Retinols from Cerave. But unfortunately, the percentage is too low for me, so I’ll just get by with the Vitamin C Serum and the Skin Renewing Night Cream.
If you have mature skin or you want to tackle early signs of ageing, you can try the other products in the Skin Renewing line, including:
I’ve been using the night cream for a while and am ready to share my thoughts.

First Impressions of the Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream
According to Cerave:
Nighttime is the skin’s chance to help renew itself, and a properly formulated night cream provides hydrating and rejuvenating benefits.
We recommend looking for formulas designed with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and ceramides to hydrate, calm and restore the skin barrier, like our CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream, which also features peptides to help improve the appearance of fatigued skin.
Suitable for all skin types, CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream features a complex of biomimetic peptides, hyaluronic acid, and 3 essential ceramides that work together to lock in skins moisture and help restore your skin’s protective barrier overnight.
Our non-greasy, intensely moisturizing skin-renewing night cream is designed to soften and renew tired skin’s look.
Our patented MVE technology encapsulates ceramides to ensure efficient delivery within the skin’s barrier and slow release over time. Support your protective skin barrier long after you’ve finished applying —so you can wake up feeling rested and rejuvenated.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
You might wonder why most Cerave products have similar textures and feel the same way on the skin.
That is because the products use the same ingredients, which are then formulated into different products.
The key ingredients across all Cerave products include:
- Hyaluronic Acid
- 3 Essential Ceramides
- Cholesterol
Other ingredients added to formulate the Skin Renewing Night Cream includes:
- Glycerin
- Shea Butter
- Dimethicone
- Allantoin
- Vitamin E
- Peptides
- Niacinamide
So, you have Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid as humectants to draw moisture from the atmosphere Shea Butter as an emollient that ensures the skin is well moisturized and Dimethicone that gives your skin that smooth, silky feel and prevents your skin from losing moisture.
The star ingredients are the Peptides which have been shown to stimulate collagen production. But being a moisturizer, you probably are better off with a Peptide serum to get the full benefits.
Not forgetting Niacinamide, Vitamin E and Allantoin, which make an occasional appearance every now and then.
They all work together to restore the skin’s barrier and improve the appearance of ageing.
As always, this moisturizer is alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency
This moisturizer is packaged in a measly 48g jar, which is miles away from the 340g size of the Cerave Moisturizing Cream.
The plastic jar also makes it very unhygienic as you must dip your fingers into it to apply, but it looks like brands don’t care about that, so they keep formulating products in a jar.
Again, similar to the moisturizing cream, this night cream also has a thick texture, but the latter is thicker than the former.
It looks like the night cream is the thickest Cerave moisturizer so far, as it targets people with a damaged skin barrier.
Despite being quite thick, it rubs in well and leaves a matte finish,
I’m not sure what Cerave has against dewy/natural finishes. This means you need to go over your skin with a thin layer of the Cerave Healing Ointment if you want that glazed doughnut look.
You’ll enjoy using this product if you are like me and have dry, dehydrated skin.

Price & Availability
This product isn’t officially available in the UK, so I had to get an overpriced one from Amazon.
I had planned to ship it from Amazon US, but I figured it would be cheaper to buy from Amazon UK.
I haven’t really worked out the difference, so I can’t really tell,
You can grab this product if you buy other things from Amazon US or visit the US.
Honestly, it is not worth going out of your way for it.
It retails for about $17/£22, which is not too bad but quite expensive for the quantity you get.
It is probably worth it if you can’t be bothered to use a separate Peptide serum but also want a thick nighttime moisturizer.
First Impressions of the Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream
I know this product is supposed to be a night cream, but I’ve been using it both in the morning and night for the past few days.
I typically have dry, dehydrated skin, but it is extra dry now because I’m using Tretinoin.
My current SPF: Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence Gold SPF 50+, is also not moisturizing enough to use on its own, so I have to supplement with a moisturizer.
So, In the AM, I use it before SPF and in the PM, I use it before the Cerave Healing Ointment if my skin is feeling extra dry.

Performance
I have little to no expectations for products like this because you most likely would not get any results asides from a healthy skin barrier.
So, don’t try to out all your ageing concerns on a $20 moisturizer because I’m sorry to break it to you, but you will be disappointed.
That being said, I love how smooth my skin feels during and after application. It looks like Dimethicone is doing all the heavy lifting here.
It definitely feels really good, especially when it is layered over well-hydrated skin.
In Conclusion
Considering the price-to-quantity ratio, you can see why this moisturizer isn’t as popular as its counterparts.
Notwithstanding, it is a great option for anyone with a damaged skin barrier.
