Does A Wedding Need A Theme? We Discuss

Planning your wedding is just as exciting as it is difficult. Where should you have the wedding? When should it be? What colour scheme looks best? Having a theme can help with these decisions for some couples, but do you really need a wedding theme? Of course, there are no right or wrong ways to plan a wedding. As long as the day is how you and your other half want it and it reflects you as a couple, anything goes! But if you’re still undecided, here are a few pros and cons for themed and unthemed weddings. And if it’s fun ideas you’re looking for, these unique and different wedding ideas might give you some much-needed inspiration.

Pros of a themed wedding

When we talk about themed weddings, it’s really up to you how far you take it. The theme can be anything from winter wonderland to an all-out marvel themed affair. It just depends on what you and your partner love. The good thing about a themed wedding is that it’s sure to be unique. Stepping away from traditional ideas means your wedding day will really stand out and offer something different from the usual.

In some cases, having a wedding theme can make the planning process more manageable in some ways. The colour scheme is picked for you and the basis for your decor, music, and venue style. For example, if your theme is enchanted forest, your colour scheme would be greens and earth tones, and the decor would probably be whimsical and based on nature. You could even go one step further and make your menu choices cohesive with your theme. Whatever you decide, a wedding theme can be an entertaining idea.

Pros of a theme-less wedding

A themed wedding isn’t for everyone, and that’s totally okay. Your wedding day can still be fun, unique and cohesive without one. Having a theme-less wedding means you aren’t constrained when it comes to choices – you can really mix things up. Perhaps you have a festival theme for your wedding reception but have always dreamed of a traditional, decadent ceremony. The two contrasting styles won’t feel out of place with no theme, as long as you have some consistency in colour palettes.

Another benefit to having a theme-less wedding is the cost. Having to source such specific decor, stationery and entertainment can often cost a penny, and you can’t cut corners if you want to pull it off well. With no theme, you can splurge on parts of the wedding that are most important to you and save on the ones you aren’t so fussed about.

Whether you choose to have a wedding theme or you don’t, your wedding day will be incredible either way. As long as you maintain consistency and a common theme throughout the day, everything will feel like it has a place. And if you’ve always dreamed of bringing the wizarding world to your wedding, nothing should stop you!
