La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum – Review

This post will review the La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum.

After the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 went viral last year, I was happy to learn that the Cicaplast line has other products in the Range, which I tried to get my hands on. So far, I’ve tied the Cicaplast Gel and the Spray. I also have the Hand Cream, which is excellent to use as a facial moisturizer.

Two weeks ago, I could not hesitate to visit a French Pharmacy when I travelled to Nice, France. Naturally, I had to get something.

After a bit of back and forth, which cost me a few extra euros, I picked up the Cicaplast Serum from one of the major French retail chains, Monoprix. This decision was terrible because it was slightly more expensive than the pharmacy.

French Pharmacies always have the best deals. Don’t sleep on them. Once I purchased the serum, I opened it when I got to my hotel room because I could not wait to use it. I had tested it on the back of my hand in the store and immediately fell in love with it.

The hydration and viscosity were giving Korean Skincare. I’ve generally never been a fan of La Roche Posay serums because they’re usually overpriced, but the Cicaplast B5 Serum made me question my choices.

Best believe I used the serum every day and night throughout my trip.

Now that I’m back, I’m ready to share my thoughts.

First Impressions of The La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum

According to La Roche Posay:

Daily barrier face serum is specifically formulated for dehydrated, irritated skin prone to dullness. Suitable for skin sensitised by daily aggressors, such as wind, extreme climates, pollution, and mask-wearing. Also suitable for use in post-superficial dermatological treatments.

Ingredient List & Fragrance

The ingredient list is as basic as they come. Think of it as a diluted version of the Cicaplast Baume. There’s honestly nothing fantastic about it. If, for some reason, your skin doesn’t agree with the ingredients in the Cicaplast Baume, this is a better lightweight alternative.

So the key ingredients include:

• 10% Panthenol
• Glycerin
• Hyaluronic Acid
• Vitamin E.

The significant ingredients missing are Shea Butter, Madecassoside, Zinc ­Gluconate and Copper ­Gluconate.

To be fair, there’s a time and place for both of them. I probably would not use much of the Cicaplast Baume during the warmer months, except I have a seriously damaged barrier which is very unlikely.

But I would definitely reach out for the Cicaplast B5 Serum, as it is water-based, soothing and hydrating.

While it is not alcohol-free, it is essential oil and fragrance-free. I’m honestly not sure why alcohol is the fourth ingredient on the list. Thankfully, the formula still manages to be hydrating despite it.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency

The serum is packaged in a 30ml glass dropper bottle, which I do not like. The dropper never seems to dispense an adequate amount of product which I think is intentional so you don’t run out too quickly.

The dropper dispenses a lightweight cloudy serum which is very viscous on application. Again, the viscosity tells me that this product is inspired by Korean Skincare because I hardly ever see Non-Asian serums that are hydrating and viscous.

It goes without saying that this serum is quite hydrating. The serum alone might not be enough for dehydrated skin, but it is fantastic when layered with other hydrating products.

It is the perfect barrier repair serum to use with other actives to prevent irritations.

Price & Avalaibility

For 30ml worth of product, this product retails for £/€39. While I applaud the idea behind the product, it is nothing revolutionary to warrant the cost.

You can get a Korean product for a fraction of the price and double the size with much better ingredients.

Just like the Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, it is a nice-to-have-one-off purchase. Don’t get me wrong, I loved everything about the product, but the price is unsustainable.

So, if you find yourself in France, I suggest you grab a bottle or two because that is the cheapest you will find it anywhere.

Review of The La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum

I use Tretinoin regularly in my routine, so I’m always on the hunt for new barrier repair serums that I can use to mitigate the side effects. Like the rest of my hydrating products, this one is layered before any actives. I use it without actives on recovery days or nights to reinforce my skin barrier.

What can I say? I love it so much. It’s so basic, but the formula gets me every time, especially since all other products I have tried in the Cicaplast line are not hydrating. This serum is honestly down my alley and reminds me of my love for skincare.

Overall,

So, suppose you’re struggling with a compromised skin barrier due to general habits like over-exfoliation or external aggressors that cause dry, dehydrated or itchy skin. In that case, this is the serum for you.

Also, if you do a lot of skincare treatments like chemical peels and need a recovery serum to add to your roster, this is the serum for you.
