There has never been a more pressing time to start being environmentally conscious. Climate change is genuine, and if we do not start making drastic changes to the way we live our lives, we could see the world irreversibly impacted in the next few years. Although it may sometimes feel as if nothing we do makes a difference, that is not the case. As individuals, we are all responsible for making changes to help create a better planet for everyone. So, if you want to start making a change in your life, then here are 4 ways you can be more environmentally friendly.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
This is a saying that has been around for a long time, and it seems that now more than ever, it is essential to abide by it. When it comes to actually live by this phrase, many people assume recycling is the most crucial part, when really what we should be doing is reducing the amount we buy. In 2022, we have access to pretty much anything we want at any given time, which has led to a culture of over-consumption. Particularly in the fashion industry, people buy hauls of clothing at once, only to wear it once or return it back to the brand. While you may think returning clothes is acceptable, often, large clothing brands will simply send old clothes to landfills instead of reselling them. It is much better for the environment to either only buy what you need or buy second-hand clothes. Shopping second-hand means that you get to give old clothes another life, and it can also be cheaper than buying brand new.

Drive An Electric Car
Another thing you could to do be more environmentally friendly is to drive an electric car. The emissions produced by petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles can damage the environment, so switching to electric cars is a great option. The recent popularity of Tesla has brought electric cars back into the forefront, and now they are considered the car of the future. Electric cars are still improving, and more and more car manufacturers recognise the potential of electric car vehicles. Having electric cars made by multiple car companies means that more people can have access to them instead of just the mega-rich. While the initial cost of an electric car may seem pricey, you will actually be saving yourself money and protecting the environment. Ultimately, walking or riding a bike will be best for the environment, but if you do need a car to get around, then an electric car would be your best environmentally friendly option.
Eat A Plant-based Diet
Eating a plant-based diet is one way to reduce your impact on the environment. Animal agriculture plays a huge role in the damaging effects of climate change, so even just reducing your meat content can make a difference. When discussions about eating a plant-based diet happen, many people get swept up in the idea of being a ‘perfect vegan’, and they assume you have to give up everything you love. While a vegan diet works for some people, it is ultimately not for everyone, so people shouldn’t feel pressured to stop eating what they like. However, if you want to make some significant changes in your life and start reducing your impact on the world, reducing your meat content is the way. You could even just start with being meat-free a couple of days of the week and see if it works.
Eat Less Dairy
Eating less dairy is another way you can be more environmentally friendly. The world consumes an enormous amount of dairy daily, and dairy production is highly destructive to the environment. To produce the amount of dairy that the world demands, there have to be millions of cows to make the milk. Cows produce methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that has slowly been warming our planet. The sheer number of dairy cows on farms has caused more methane production than ever before. In fact, reports show that the emissions produced from the 13 largest dairy farms match those produced by the entire UK. So, if you can, try giving up dairy or reducing your consumption of it. Doing this will have a positive impact on the environment.
We should all do our bit to reduce our impact on the environment. While some methods may not work for you, you should at least try to find small ways to make a big difference. After all, it will only be us and our future generations that suffer if we don’t.
