The Pixi Glow Tonic is one of those products I bought simply out of Internet peer pressure and I never succumb to pressure. But the Pixi Glow Tonic was everywhere and I just got into chemical exfoliation. (Read my current Korean Skincare Routine) You know the worst part about this? I bought it just after buying the big bottle of The Ordinary Glycolic Toning Solution. Yeah, I obviously didn’t know what I was thinking. But on the bright side, I got the small size on sale for about £6 as opposed to £10 at Boots so yay me! At least, I saved £4 along the way.
The Pixi Glow Tonic is what you would call a cult product. Cult products are usually viral beauty products that everyone swears by. Sometimes they work, other times, not so much. This is one of the main reasons why I steer clear of them. I try not to buy cult products except I ABSOLUTELY need them because they might NOT work. It’s more or less a gamble. But I bought the Pixi Glow Tonic expecting to glow in one week but I was grossly disappointed.
First Impressions
- Size: I got the 100ml size which usually goes for £10 for £6 on sale. When you think about it, it is quite on the high side especially since you’re directed to use it every day. That means you would run out in about a month and end up buying another bottle. What a marketing strategy!
- Price: Compared to The Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid Toning Solution which goes for about £6 for 240ml, it is pricy.
- Ingredient List: Well, I’m glad that they were transparent with the ingredient list and list all of them as opposed to key ingredients.
- Packaging: If there’s one thing that was gotten right, it is the packaging. It is packaged in such a way that it will not spill even if it is manhandled. Big props to them! Now I look forward to seeing that same nooze in subsequent toners.
- Fragrance: I’m not a fan of scents. At all. So I appreciate when products are not heavily fragranced.
Review
- Directions: You’re directed to use the Pixi Glow Tonic in the morning and at night or as when needed after needed. Again, this doesn’t make sense because we’re dealing with a chemical exfoliation with a higher chance of over-exfoliating. Exfoliating every day is definitely overdoing it.
- What I did instead: Initially, I used it for about 3 times a week then I used it daily for a week and now I’m back to using it 3 times a week. I couldn’t just get over the idea that I was over-exfoliating when I used it daily. So I stopped because it got so uncomfortable.
- So did it work for me? Not quite. I can’t see that much difference in my skin, to be honest. While my hyperpigmentation is slowly but surely fading, it hasn’t been anything drastic. Also, I haven’t seen any drastic glow in my complexion like the product claims.
So what next…?
I have officially dumped it for my face and now I use it to exfoliate my legs. I still have halfway to go and I might as well finish it.
Will I be purchasing again?
Nope, I won’t because the prices don’t make sense. I would rather go for The Ordinary Glycolic Toning Solution.
