This post will review the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.
I recently started wearing makeup again after stopping for a couple of years to focus on skincare. Naturally, I needed to get a good makeup remover after using Micellar Water for years. Don’t get me wrong, Micellar Water is also great for removing makeup; I think that makeup remover balms and oils are much more efficient.
During one of my trips to Milan, I was scanning through the Mini/Travel section, and this product caught my eye. I knew I would need a cleansing balm soon, so I thought I might as well get a travel size to start with. That was a great decision because I immediately fell in love with it.
Clinique is that OG brand that has been around for decades. In the last few years, they have faded out of the spotlight and been replaced by many new, emerging, exciting brands. Which is what happens when you don’t evolve. But imagine my surprise when I discovered the latest releases, including the Take The Day Off Cleaning Balm and the Moisture Surge Moisturizer.
Seeing how excellent both products are, Clinique looks like it is ready to evolve.
I’m almost done with the travel size of this product, and I thought I should share my experience with it.
First Impressions Of The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
According to Clinique:
Lightweight makeup remover balm quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeup and sunscreen. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly and rinses off completely. Gently helps remove the stress of pollution, so skin looks younger for longer. Non-greasy. Non-drying.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
When it comes to cleansing balms, I’m less concerned about the ingredient list but more concerned about performance. Cleaning products could have the best ingredient list, but if the experience of using them is not pleasant enough, it is honestly not worth it.

Either way, let’s see what this product is formulated with. From what I can see, the product has a short ingredient list, with the significant ingredients being Sunflower Oil and Vitamin E.
But it is worth noting that this product is alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free. It has also been formulated to work across all skin types.
Packaging, Texture & Consistency
This cleansing balm is packaged in a 125ml jar which I’m honestly not a fan of because you have to keep dipping your fingers into it. Even though I hope it can be rebranded and repackaged into a tube, I do not see it happening, as the purple and silver jar stands out.
As the name implies, this product is a thick balm which transforms into a silky oil when melted. It also emulsifiers and rinses off completely without leaving a thin film when in contact with water.
I’ve used a couple of cleansing balms in the past, and this one has been a nice and pleasant experience. Sometimes, on my makeup-free days, I massage my skin for up to five minutes because of how smooth and silky it feels on the skin.
Price & Affordablility
This product retails for $25/£29, which is not the most affordable, as many drugstore options are under $15. Either way, I recommend you get the travel size for $12-15 before investing in the full size to test it out.
Review Of The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
So, I use this cleansing balm in three ways:
- To remove a full face sunscreen and makeup.
- To remove sunscreen alone.
- As an oil cleanser to massage my skin.
As a makeup remover, it is excellent. I only need to dip my fingers once or twice into the jar, scoop out a bit, melt it on my palms and massage my face. I don’t need to rub too much before all the makeup dissolves immediately. It is important to bear in mind that I wear basic everyday makeup. So I can’t speak for heavy-duty or waterproof makeup.
As a sunscreen remover or on no-makeup days, it is equally excellent. Sometimes, my skin needs a little oil massage to clean out my pores, lift blackheads and smoothen texture Other times, it is therapeutic and feels good.
While I’m not a fan of using Muslin or Cleansing Cloths, this product rinses out well without leaving a film on your skin. All you need to do afterwards is to follow up with a water-based cleanser like the Cerave Foaming Cleanser.
I’m sure you’re wondering if this cleanser is worth the price. I recommend you get the travel size first and decide if it is worth splurging on.

The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is a lovely makeup remover for everyday makeup that works across all skin types.
