The post will be comparing two of the most popular Snail Mucin products in the market; Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence vs Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence.
One of my earliest introductions to Korean Skincare was through Snail Mucin. I was super curious about how Snail Mucin could transform my dry dehydrated skin. After hearing so many raving reviews about it, I finally caved in and purchased my very first bottle of Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence.
For those that are not familiar with Snail Mucin as an ingredient in skincare, it is another name for snail secretion filtrate. Yes, it is actually what you are thinking. But please don’t think too much about it. It is amazing your skin and has many benefits including;
- Hydrating the skin.
- Improving collagen production
- Reducing premature aging due to UV exposure.
- Increasing skin cell turnover
- Reducing scarring
When I bought my first bottle, I wasn’t even aware of these ingredients. All I knew was that after the first few days, my skin was literally glowing! It was unbelievable. Right there and then, I promised myself to always include it in my routine.
So today, I’ll be comparing two Snail Mucin products that I have used; the Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence and the Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence. As always, my criteria for comparing/reviewing them will be based on the following;
- Texture of Each Product
- Ease of Absorption
- How I Use It
- Availability, Price & Size
Let’s get down to business!
Review: Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence
I literally cannot stop raving about this product. It is easily one of the best products I’ve used for my skin. I’m hoping that I can convert one more person struggling with dry skin to see the awesomeness that is this product.
Texture
Unlike my other fave, the Hada Labo Premium lotion which has a lot thicker viscosity, this doesn’t. It has a lightweight sticky texture that literally reminds you of a snail. Which is explainable because the product has 96% snail secretion filtrate. Even though it is sticky, it is super easy to apply and layers very well under other products. So don’t be afraid.
Ease of Absoption
As a result of its lightweight texture, it is easily absorbable. Two or three pumps are fine for your entire face. Whether you rub or tap it in, it absorbs nicely into your skin and leaves a glowy finish. One of my favourite things about the Cosrx Snail Mucin is that you still get the benefits even if you stop using it after a while. Your face might be dry or dehydrated but it would still be smooth and glowy; which is an aftereffect of regular use. The fact that it doesn’t just sit on your skin makes it suitable for all skin types.
How I Use It
If you have checked out my winter skincare routine, you’ll see that it is one of the essences I layer. I love how my skin is never dehydrated and ashy when I use it during the winter. Interesting, I recently got the Cosrx Snail Mucin 92 Cream from Jolse and I’m loving it as well. While I currently use the essence and cream separately, as the weather gets colder I’ll be using them together.
Availability, Price & Size
As a result of being one of the most popular Korean Skincare products globally, it is pretty easy to find. I mean you can grab one from Amazon this minute if you want. But if you’re like me and prefer a cheaper deal, StyleVana definitely has one! For £15 – £20, you will get a 100ml pump bottle that lasts well over three months.

Review: Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence
Quick story! Just before lockdown, I ordered a new bottle of the Cosrx Snail Mucin because I had run out. I had no idea that we would be going into lockdown and my order would never arrive. After waiting for over a month, I had to look for an alternative Snail Mucin product. So, I hopped on EBay and got a good deal for the Benton Snail Bee Essence for about £11. Bear in mind that this was going lockdown and I couldn’t order products from Korea.
So, I bought the product and used it until I was able to order another Cosrx Snail Mucin.
Texture
Unlike the Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence, the Benton Snail Bee Essence is a very much thicker viscosity. Two pumps will give you a blop of product that you can use all over your face. It has a gel-like consistency that makes it very ideal for dry dehydrated skin. Now, if you have oily skin, for instance, it might feel heavy. Even though hydration is absolutely necessary for all skin types, some people might find the Benton Snail Bee too thick. It particularly works when you want to use it alone without layering any other product.
Ease of Absorption
Again, unlike the Cosrx Snail Mucin, it doesn’t immediately get absorbed into your skin. It takes a bit of rubbing/tapping. Most times, I rub it in once and leave it. I really don’t have the patience to get it to completely sink into my skin. But it does eventually.
How I Use It
If you checked out my Summer skincare routine, you will see that I use it as an essence after my toner. But once the weather got hotter, I dropped it for a more simplified routine.
Availability, Price & Size
Benton is also one of the popular Korean Skincare brands so you’ll find the product at major retailers. For £11 – £20, you will get a 60ml pump bottle that lasts for a few months.
Personal Verdict
I don’t know if you could tell but I definitely prefer the Cosrx Snail Mucin to the Benton Snail Bee. The latter has 96% Snail Secretion Filtrate while the former has a miserly 13%. You can obviously tell which is more hydrating than the other. Asides from that, the Benton is a nice replacement for the Cosrx if for any reason it is out of stock and you need an alternative.
Also, I’m terms of the size/price ratio, the Cosrx Snail Mucin is a better value for money.
If you are new to the world of Snail Mucin products, please go for Cosrx as it works for all skin types. If it is not available, you can also try the Benton Snail Bee. Over time, I’ll be reviewing more snail mucin products so look out for them.
