This post will be sharing my current easy Self Care Sunday Skincare routine.
I never used to take self-care seriously until lockdown began. Being stuck at home made me think about different ways to protect my mental health whilst relieving stress and anxiety. From working out to blogging, TikToking and Netflixing, I found myself in a routine of sorts.
But then I wanted to do more by taking extra care of myself. Basically just indulging in self-care. So, I started with my at-home spa day routine which was mostly targeted body skincare. Then I realised that something was missing. Yes, I was treating my body but what about my face? Already I have a solid skincare routine so I didn’t think I needed to do more. Turns out, I could do something extra for my face as well. Every weekend I look forward to my Self Care Sunday Routine (which alternates between Saturday and Sunday) because it is a special time for myself.
How to do a Self Care Sunday Skincare Routine At Home
-
Oil Cleanse for 10 – 15 minutes
In case you are living under a rock, you should absolutely be oil cleansing. I used to oil cleanse a lot when I wore makeup regularly and now that I don’t, I stopped. But I recently picked it up because I was tired of looking at my oil cleansers staring right back at me. Also, I felt that I didn’t need it because we’re on lockdown. But then, I watched the entire YouTube video of Labeautyologist on Oil Cleansing and I had a change of heart.
Other than the fact that I’ve gotten fewer breakouts since I went back to oil cleansing, just massaging my face for five to ten minutes is actually very soothing. This makes it a perfect way to kick off my Self Care Sunday Routine.
I currently use the Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil and my dry skin absolutely loves it. Next, I do a double cleanse with my Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Cleanser to prepare my skin for an exfoliating facial.

Exfoliate with The Ordinary AHA/BHA Peeling Solution for 10 minutes.
One of the reasons why I started a self-care Sunday routine was because I wanted to find a way to slot The Ordinary Peeling Solution into my weekly routine. I currently use it once a week, particularly on the weekends. But every single time I used it, I felt like I could do so much more before and afterwards. After cleansing my skin, I apply this product on dry skin and wait for 10 minutes. During that time, I typically do a short workout just to pass the time. When I’m done, I rinse out with lukewarm water.

Follow up with a moisturising face mask
As much as The Ordinary Peeling Solution leaves my skin nice and soft, I wanted something extra. Believe me, there’s nothing like slathering your face with a moisturising face mask after a facial. My face feels so smooth, soft and hydrated afterwards. I recently checked my skincare stash and I realised that I didn’t have any rinse out face mask remotely moisturising.
So, I went into Superdrug to find something. After going around the store a couple of times, I finally settled for a Vitamin E Leave-On Mask. which I use as a rinse-out mask. It’s cheap, effective and it works. I slather this on and get ready for my body routine.

Shave if necessary
I’m currently trying to treat my Strawberry Legs so I recently decided to start shaving my body. No, I’m not hairy so I didn’t see the need to. But then, I noticed the difference shaving makes to my thighs and legs. So, I slather on some Tresseme conditioner and shave with a Ladies shaving stick gently. During this time, I turn on the hot water to steam up the bathroom. When I’m done shaving, I hop into the shower and start my Morrocan Hamman Routine.

Finish up with a Morrocan Hamman.
I already wrote about my current Morrocan Hamman Routine. But trust me when I say that there’s nothing like scrubbing off dead skin with the Morrocan Kessa glove and doing a body mask with Rhassoul Clay. It has easily become the highlight of my weekend.
As a result of being stuck at home, I’ve found solace in my skincare routines. They have brought me so much joy during this period because I’ve dedicated my time, money and energy to it. Even when I go back to work, I’m hoping I still find time to enjoy and practice self-care.
