Eucerin Daily Hydration Cream SPF 30 – Review

This post will be reviewing the Eucerin Daily Hydration Cream SPF 30.

This product went viral on TikTok in 2021, so I’m definitely a year late in reviewing. But then, I was clearing out my skincare stash, and I realized that it is better late than never to share this review, so here we are.

This is probably the very first U.S. sunscreen I’ve tried. Most sunscreens I’ve used so far have been purchased from the U.K., E.U. or Asia. I had to go on iHerb to get this product down to me in the U.K. While it went viral for good reasons, I was still sceptical because I know how far behind the U.S. filters are. Plus, it was cheap, so there was nothing much to lose.

If you buy most of your skincare from drugstores, you’ll probably be familiar with Eucerin products. They have a wide range of facial and body care products that try to cater to all skin types. I’ve not really had any bad experiences with the brand so far. I love switching between their offerings in the U.S. and E.U.

Without further ado, let’s get into the details of this sunscreen.

Eucerin Daily Hydration Cream SPF 30 - Review

First Impression of the Eucerin Daily Hydration Cream SPF 30

According to Eucerin,

Daily Hydration Lotion SPF 30 provides 24 hour moisture to dry skin while protecting it from sunburn and long-term skin damage with broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. UV light is the main cause of sun-induced skin damage and a major risk factor for most skin cancers. This lightweight 2 in 1 moisturizer and sunscreen is fast-absorbing and non-greasy. Daily Hydration Lotion SPF 30 is safe for sensitive skin and is fragrance-free and dye free.

Ingredient List, Sunscreen Filters & Fragrance

US Sunscreens don’t really go the extra mile by adding soothing and beneficial ingredients to their products. They just go straight to the point with their sunscreen filters which I have no choice but to do.

This is a chemical body sunscreen, but somehow TikTok convinced some people that it can be used for the face to save money because of the size. Oh well, we shall see how well that went. In the U.S., sunscreens are considered a drug, so brands have to declare the sunscreen filters used with their percentages.

This one is formulated with four filters which include;

  • Avobenzone 3.0% – for UVA protection
  • Homosalate 5.0% – for UVB protection
  • Octisalate 5.0% – for UVB protection
  • Octocrylene 9.0% – for UVB proetction

The filters are pretty decent for an SPF 30 product and will definitely provide your skin with UVA & UVB protection.

It also manages to be alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free. So any irritation you might get from this product will most likely come from the sunscreen filters.

Texture & Consitency

This is where I fell in love with this product. As someone with dry, dehydrated skin, I’m always looking for emollient sunscreens that genuinely feel like moisturizers. So when I discovered that this product claims to be a two in one product and given my history with other Eucerin moisturizers, I really had high hopes. The best thing about this sunscreen is its semi-emollient texture, which many people might find too heavy for the face. But I absolutely love it. It is everything and more; my dry skin craves in a sunscreen in terms of texture and consistency.

Pricing, Avalaiblity & Packaging

Eucerin is a global durgustore brand. But this specific product is primarily found in the U.S. market, so you have to find a retailer that ships to your location. It retails for about $10 for 8oz/226g of product which is pretty good given how little most facial sunscreens are for the same price. Again since it is primarily a body sunscreen and you need more product to cover your entire body, the size makes so much sense.

It is packaged in a large tube, making it hygienic and convenient to dispense when required.

Review of the Eucerin Daily Hydration Cream SPF 30

So I used this product both for my face and my body. I wanted to test its effectiveness and decide how best to use it. On my body, it is was excellent, particularly for the summer. I had no irritations whatsoever. It was just perfect for my body, which the product was initially intended for.

But for my face, it was slightly a different story entirely as I experienced eye stings after application, and I swore never to put this sunscreen near my eyes ever again. Yes, that’s how much it stung.

So, for those of us that want to maximize this sunscreen by also using it on the face, here are some of the pros and cons you should consider;

Pros

  • Decent chemical filters
  • No white cast
  • Non-sticky
  • Moisturizing
  • Can work across most skin types without the need for a moisturizer.
  • Doesn’t pill; layers well under makeup and overskincare products.
  • Takes a bit to absorbs completely into the skin but it eventually does.
  • Cheap and affordable

Cons

  • Stings the eyes BADLY, so avoid applying it near the eyes.
  • Leaves a greasy/dewy finsih depending on your skin type.
  • Probably not water-resistant or sweat-proof.
  • Not exactly availiable in all regions.

In theory, this is a decent sunscreen, but you have to ask yourself if it is worth the hassle to get it shipped down to you every time you run out. Yes, it is cheap but is it worth the eye stings? It might actually be better to get sunscreen available in your local drugstore. But if you still want to use this for your body, you can just buy a couple at a time that would last you for about a year.

Finally,

As all dermatologists always say, the best sunscreen for you is the one you will use consistently. If the Eucerin Daily Hydration Cream SPF 30 happens to be it, enjoy!
