This post will be reviewing the Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop.
I was looking for lightweight serums for the Summer, and I decided to try the anti-ageing ones. Most of the ones on the market are either Peptides or Ginseng-based. But I’m sure everyone knows that there isn’t much evidence to back the effectiveness of Peptides for anti-ageing. It’s just nice to have, especially when they come in a different, usually blue colour.
Regarding anti-ageing, Retinoids are the gold standard with years of research and studies behind them, so don’t try to find a replacement. There simply isn’t any.
Dear Klairs is one of the original brands that introduced many of us to Korean Skincare with their best-selling Supple Preparation Toner. But if there’s one thing I’ve noticed with the brand is that they stick to staple products.
Unlike some others, they don’t pop up new releases yearly, which is why the brand is currently not trending as much as Beauty of Joseon or Isntree. The last I heard from them was when they released an overpriced line which I’m not sure was well received. All we know is that the brand has not released any innovative product in a while.
So, when I saw this product on sale, I realized that I hadn’t used any of Klairs’ products in a while, so I decided to go for it just for a change. Just to spice up my routine.
I’ve halfway through this tiny bottle, and I have some thoughts.

First Impressions of the Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop
According to Klairs;
The highly concentrated Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop adds radiance and luminosity to the skin to substantially improve the complexion and stimulates the skin to encourage a youthful appearance. It also accelerates the skin’s renewal process, which helps to improve elasiticity, appearance of pigmentation and fine lines.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
I found the ingredient list of this serum to be fascinating as it only has 10 ingredients in total, with the primary ones being;
- Sh-Oligopeptide- 1
- Sh-Polypeptide- 1
- Blueberry Fruit Extract
- Adenosine
So we have two significant peptides that supposedly help with the appearance of fine lines by accelerating the skin’s renewal process. Again big claims that aren’t back that much evidence. As for the Blueberry Fruit Extract and Adenosine, they simply provide soothing benefits as well.
The only good thing about this product is that it is alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency
This serum is packaged in a 20ml amber pipette bottle. It comes out with a blue hue and an honestly annoying and super watery consistency. It doesn’t stay on your palm when you want to apply it. Instead, it runs through your fingers. When applied directly to your face, it also runs super quickly and can accidentally go into your mouth if you use too much. To be honest, I’m not a fan, and this alone will prevent me from repurchasing asides from it not doing anything.
Price & Availability
For a 20ml product, this product retails from $27 – 35 depending on where you buy, which is expensive by all means. As a result of it being watery, you run through it very quickly without necessarily using it enough to give actual results.
If you still want to try this line with the Peptides, I recommend choosing the moisturizer version instead: Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream. You get more bang for your buck, and even if it doesn’t reduce your fine lines, at least you get an excellent gel-cream moisturizer. But if you really want to try it, I suggest getting it on sale.
Review of the Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop
So I use this serum as the third product after my toner and hydrating serum. My skin is too dry to use alone. Plus, it is not exactly hydrating, so I have to layer it with other products. The good thing is that it is buildable, so if you layer it a couple of times, it won’t pill. It layers very well with other products.

Performance
I have two fine lines on my forehead, which I intentionally left just to gauge the effectiveness of this product. I’m halfway through the bottle and haven’t seen any difference even though I apply it in the morning and evening even though I didn’t have that many expectations. I just wanted to see if a 20ml Blue Peptide serum can justify its price, which it clearly doesn’t. I’m unsure how many bottles you need to go through to get results, but this isn’t it.
Finally
Like I said earlier, if you want to try this line, you’re better off getting the moisturizer. Maybe Klairs should have included more anti-ageing plant extracts like Ginseng and made the formula more hydrating. Possibly, just perhaps, the Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop will be redeemable. Until further notice, I’ll be sticking to my Retinoids.
