- 1 Tretinoin for Beginners
This post will be reviewing the Reliable Rx Pharmacy for prescription skincare.
If you belong to any skincare community online, you would have noticed the product ‘Tretinoin’ being passed around frequently. You probably would have also seen the amazing before and after results that comes from the consistent use of Tretinoin. This was me a couple of months ago.
The first time I heard about retinol, I thought it was only reserved for mature/ageing skin. I didn’t think I needed to use it as early as my late twenties. Plus all the irritations that came with using retinol really put me off. But then I got over my fear and jumped into the lowest strength of Retinol that would give me decent results with little to no irritation. I shared my experience in The Ordinary Retinol Guide. That was at the beginning of the year. I started my first bottle and after a few months, it began to oxidize so I threw it somewhere until I picked it up recently to use for my hands. Turns out, I actually suffer from hand ageing.
Tretinoin for Beginners
The other day, I was casually scrolling through TikTok when I stumbled on an account that shares her experiences with hyperpigmentation. One of her holy grail products is Tretinoin. It had helped her skin so much. This made me very intrigued because hyperpigmentation is also one of my skin concerns. After doing a bit of research, I found out that you can only get Tret through a dermatologist’s prescription. I was so upset because here in the UK, I’ve not had success with derms. Then one day, this TikToker casually mentioned that you can get Tretinoin without a dermatologist’s prescription via online pharmacies. She mentioned Reliable Rx Pharmacy and I was so excited.
Tretinoin is considered a prescription in the US, UK and a few other countries. But in countries like Mexico, Pakistan, India, UAE and a few other countries, Tretinoin can be purchased over the counter hence the existence of online pharmacies that ship worldwide. Now, if you are a skincare beginner that is still trying to understand skincare ingredients and how they work for your skin, you need to stop here. You are better off signing up for prescriptions via Curology, Dematica or Skin & Me.
If you have more advanced knowledge of skincare including acids and actives and have been using them for a while, you can go ahead and read this review. A lot of times, access to skincare professionals like dermatologists is a privilege. So, if you’re able to teach yourself everything you need to know and still get results, you should be commended.
First Impressions & Review of Reliable Rx Pharmacy.
Immediately I found out about Reliable Rx Pharmacy, I had to check them out. I had to confirm if they actually sold Tretinoin and other high strength skincare prescriptions. The first thing I noticed was that they was no information that they shipped to the UK. So, I asked them on Twitter and they confirmed that they did. After a bit of back and forth for a couple of days, I finally placed my order.
Here are some key points to note about the online pharamacy:
Seeing how overpriced Tretinoin and other prescription treatments are in the US, the prices are really affordable. So much that I didn’t hesitate to buy a batch of three with my first order. For less than $15, you get access to the best actives for treating acne, hyperpigmentation and ageing concerns. The fact that it is that cheap in USD means that it is even more for me in GBP.
Very Fast Shipping
With the super cheap prices of the products, I was concerned about the shipping prices. I knew there was no way it was going to be that cheap as well. Fortunately, it only came down to $18 to ship to the UK. At first, I thought it was a lot but then I got my order in seven days and I was like take all my money!
Extensive Product Information
Unlike a lot of eCommerce websites that sell skincare products, there’s a lot of information on each product page. They probably understand that people buying from them don’t have access to a dermatologist so they try to keep them as informed as possible. There’s a lot of information on dosage and administration, forms and strengths, contradictions, warnings and precautions, side effects, conflicts, ingredients and storage information. If you don’t read all the information on their website and you get an adverse effect, it’s all on you not them.
Wide selection of Prescription strength products
It wasn’t until I discovered Reliable Rx pharmacy that I learnt about certain strengths of some actives. For instance, I didn’t know that you could get Salicylic Acid over 2% or Azelaic Acid over 10%. While they all look tempting to explore, I’m not about to burn my face in the process. Tretinoin is brutal enough.
Outdated payment system
There is really no excuse for a website to use bank transfer for payments in 2020. I guess this is one of the things that put a lot of people off the website. It is totally understandable if you are worried about being scammed and whatnot. To be on the safe side, you can use an empty bank account to make payments to avoid stories that touch. I really don’t know why they use bank transfer for payments but I’m hoping that changes soon.
Pretty Smooth Ordering Process
For context, I placed my order on the 17th of November, paid through their payment gateway and got a receipt on the 18th and it was shipped on the 20th. My order came seven days later. The only hiccup would be the payment system but once you figure it out, you should be fine. I’ve always been told their customer service is very responsive even though I didn’t need them. So, if you encounter any issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to them.
I had a very good experience with Reliable Rx Pharmacy so I’ll definetly be buying from them again. For my readers in the UK, I want to try out Dermatica and Skin & Me to use and review for you. Hopefully, that will come by the first quarter of 2021.
As for my Tretinoin, I haven’t tried it yet because I accidentally bought the highest strength instead of the lowest. Also, my skin is dry enough during the winter. I don’t need the additional dryness from Tretinoin. So, I’ll be waiting till early Spring to start. In the meantime, I’ll be educating myself with all the information I need to know via Facebook and Reddit Support Groups.
