This post will share a beginner’s guide to The Ordinary moisturizers.
If you haven’t noticed, The Ordinary has launched about six new products in the first half of 2023, and I’ve already shared my thoughts on the new cleansers.
I was slightly disappointed with both of The Ordinary’s new cleansers as they were drying and stripping.
Which means I immediately had high hopes for the new moisturizers.
Thankfully, they were so much better, and I’ve been enjoying them for over a month now,
Moisturizers are typically fuss-free. It’s either you like them, or you don’t. There’s no two-way about it.
Most importantly, I love that they built upon the formula of the original moisturizer.
So, if your skin loves and agrees with The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors, you’ll most likely not have any issues with the new moisturizers, except if you don’t like the textures.
Besides that, I’m glad The Ordinary is paying attention to their customer’s needs.
Hopefully, we get new sunscreens in the future.
Let’s dive into the new products!
The Ordinary Moisturizers: How to Choose The Right One For Your Skin Type
So far, The Ordinary currently have three moisturizers:
- Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
- Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan
- Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides
I’ve used all three moisturizers, and I’m happy to guide you on buying the best one for your skin concerns.
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
- Texture: Lightweight cream
- Suitable for: all skin types, specifically normal to combination skin.
- Key ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid, Urea, Allantoin, Vitamin E & Amino Acids.
I remember using this moisturizer at the beginning of my skincare journey with The Ordinary.
I had used several moisturizers, but none was as nourishing as this one.
Pairing it with Rosehip Seed Oil sustained my dry, dehydrated skin through harsh winters.
It is no wonder it became an instant bestseller across various skin types.
Its basic fragrance-free formula ensures everyone, even those with sensitive skin, can use it.
But now that there are more options, this original formula is more effective for those with normal to combination skin.
If your skin is a bit dry and you want something lightweight that you can use with sunscreen in the morning or as your final product at night, this one is for you.
Depending on how dry or dehydrated your skin is, this moisturizer might not be adequate for the colder months.
So, layer it with an oil or an occlusive or go with the thicker moisturizer, which will be discussed shortly.
Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan
- Texture: Gel
- Suitable for: all skin types, specifically oily to combination skin.
- Key Ingredients: Tocopherol, Amino Acids, Urea, Hyaluronic Acid & Beta Glucan.
I was so excited when I heard The Ordinary was finally releasing a gel moisturizer.
Given how they have mostly steered away from gel formulas, I was curious to see how the first would be executed.
And boy, did they execute!
Despite having dry skin, I tend to navigate towards gel moisturizers during the warmer months.
This means that I have used many of them over the years, so I have specific levels of expectations.
Gel moisturizers are not equal, as some are more hydrating than others.
So, when I tried this gel moisturizer from The Ordinary, I was immediately impressed by how hydrating it was.
They were definitely able to translate the original moisturizer formula into a gel format, and the result is nothing short of excellent.
They also threw in some Beta Glucan to boost the hydrating properties.
So, if you have oily to combination skin and your skin can’t stand creamy products, this moisturizer is for you.
Even if you have normal to dry skin, you can also use it. It is excellent under sunscreen, moisturizer and makeup as it sinks in upon application without leaving a greasy finish.
I use it in the mornings when my skin needs extra hydration, and it never lets me down.
Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides
- Texture: Thick cream
- Suitable for: all skin types, specifically dry to dehydrated skin
- Key ingredients: Tocopherol, Amino Acids, Urea, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycolipids, Glycosphingolipids & Fatty Acids.
Out of all the six new products The Ordinary released this year, the most exciting for me so far has been this moisturizer.
As someone with dry, dehydrated skin who is also currently on Tretinoin, I need all the nourishment I can get.
So, the thicker the moisturizer, the better for me.
I’ve used it almost daily in the last month; you can tell the difference between the other moisturizers.
What can I say?
It is deeply moisturizing and nourishing, leaving your skin dewy after application.
I cannot wait to see how it will perform in the colder months. I have no doubt that it will come through.
So, if you have dry skin, are prone to dehydration, or are hunting for a nourishing moisturizer, you need to try the upgraded version of the Natural Moisturizing Factors.
In Conclusion
Overall, I’m honestly happy The Ordinary now has a moisturizer for everyone. Between all three products, most, if not all, skin types have been catered to.
With these new launches, it looks like The Ordinary is gradually becoming a one-stop shop for skincare.
With their prices and philosophy, I can’t complain.
I’m looking forward to the new releases in the future.
