Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion – Review

This post will be reviewing the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

I honestly can’t believe I’ve been sleeping on Aveeno all this time. Yes, I tried one of their products in the past, but I wasn’t too impressed. Until they launched their Calm and Restore range for the face (which I’ll be reviewing soon), and my interest shifted back to the brand briefly. But then I researched Drugstore brands, and I didn’t realise how popular Aveeno was, especially for body care. So, I decided to try some of their bestsellers. One of them is this Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

For those not aware, Aveeno is a veteran drugstore brand that formulates products for sensitive skin with Oatmeal. This is why similar to Cerave, you’ll find a different variety of oatmeal extracts in their products. So, it’s either Oat Kernel Extract, Oat Oil and/or Colloidal Oatmeal. Those who benefit from Aveeno products are people with concerns that cause their skin to itch. The Oatmeal in the products will help soothe their skin and calm any inflammation. You can say Aveeno is a very niche brand which I can definitely get behind.

So, I went back to try this product and see what the deal was.

Ingredient List & Fragrance

Surprisingly, this has a super basic formula with Glycerin, Mineral Oil and Oat Kernel Flour. In a way, this is great, especially for people with sensitive skin. This basic fragrance-free formula means that it cuts across all skin types, and everyone can use it. I was expecting more from this moisturiser, but it is expected given the price as a drugstore product.

Texture & Consistency

I use many French Pharmacy body care products, and the staple ingredient I always look for my dry, dehydrated skin is Mineral Oil. This means that all my body care products are thick balms. So, colour me surprised when I discovered Mineral Oil in the ingredient list with a lighter consistency. It’s not too thick or too fluid; it’s just right there in the middle, working across all skin types from normal to dry. On the other hand, it might not be sufficient for anyone with dry to very skin like me so take note of that.

The non-greasy lotion consistency absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving traces behind. The only evidence you’ll notice afterwards is how soft, supple and nourished your skin is.

Packaging, Price & Availability

This product comes in three sizes; 200ml, 300ml and 500ml, with the most popular being the 300ml pump bottle. I remember how much I hated this pump bottle because it was always a struggle to get the product out when it was halfway done. I’m not sure if it’s been improved since the last time because I got a 200ml tube instead. Aveeno is a reasonably popular brand, so you’ll find their products online and in most drugstores for less than $10.

Review of the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

So, I used this product briefly, mainly as a body moisturiser as it was intended. I tried not to have too many expectations because it is basic as they come as far as moisturisers go. But for some reason, it works for many people.

I loved that initial nourishment you get on application. But afterwards, it sinks right into your skin with no trace whatsoever. For me, this is always a tell-tale sign that the moisturiser is not enough for me. So, I don’t force it. I used it a few more times before finally concluding that the product wasn’t for me. While I could make it work by layering a body oil over it, I just didn’t feel the need to.

But if you have normal to dry skin like normal people and you want to try this product, here are the pros and cons to inform your decision:

• Non-greasy and non-sticky.
• Fragrance-free
• Fast-absorbing formula that doesn’t transfer.
• Works across all skin types.
• Decently nourishing.
• Suitable for sensitive skin.
• No active ingredients, so fewer chances of being irritating.

Cons

• Not enough for dry to very dry skin.

I absolutely have nothing against this moisturiser. I just have higher standards for body moisturisers in general. Anyway, as you can see, as far as drugstore products are concerned, this is a decent product.

Finally,

This product is a perfect gateway to learning about other moisturisers that Aveeno offers. I’ve seen a few, and I have a feeling I’ll prefer them to this one.
