Winter is around the corner. If you’re anything like me, you’ve started trying out different moisturizers that you will use for the winter. I’m currently using two different moisturizers at the moment but unfortunately, they are not thick enough. So, I’m in search of intensive moisture creams; specifically moisturizers with Ceramides. Based on my research, I’ve found them to be the most effective so I have the Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream on the way.
At first, I wanted to settle for the Cerave Moisturizing Cream but I’ve found it to be too basic. Also, I’m currently in the process of converting my entire Drugstore skincare routine to Korean skincare. So, I might as well get into it.
What’s the deal about Korean Moisturizers?
First of all, if you are not familiar with Korean moisturizers, you need to know that they come in various formats that work across different skin types. Plus, they are usually more referred to as creams as opposed to moisturizers. So, you have lightweight moisturizers like lotions, emulsions, gel and water creams. To thicker moisturizers like moist and/or intensive creams.
When buying a cream, you need to consider your skin type and the season to find the best product that will work for you. Oily and combination skin types will most likely prefer the gel and water creams. While the moist/intensive creams are recommended for drier skin types.
If you prefer to layer two or more creams particularly during the winter, it is completely up to you. There is absolutely no rule that says you should stick to one type of moisturizer.
Now that we have an idea of the kind of moisturizers avaliable in Korean skincare, let’s move on to my recommendations.

One of my favourite things about Korean skincare is the prices. They’re so cheap! This means that I have different options to try for less. A lot of amazing Korean products might not be available on Amazon but there are few of them and I’m excited to share them with you.
Etude House Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream – $15
This is easily one of the best-selling moisturizers of 2020. It got particularly popular with those that have sensitive skin from over-exfoliation and using harsh products that damaged their moisture barrier.
It’s a basic lightweight moisturizer that is packed with soothing and healing ingredients including Centella Extract, Panthenol and Green Tea. This is a great product to have in your skincare stash to use when your skin starts acting up. It will calm any inflammation and get your skin back in shape in no time.
Pyunkang Yul Moisture Cream – $23
I feel like everyone has been sleeping on the Pyunkang Yul moisturizers and just focusing on the toner essence alone. I’m currently using the Pyunkang Yul Nutrition Cream which I recently got as a sample. Let me tell you, it is easily one of the best moisturizers I have ever used. It’s so thick, creamy and moisturizing which is perfect for the winter.
This Moisture Cream is no different. It is formulated with their signature ingredient; Coptis Japonica or Japanese Goldthread which has inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It also has Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil as emollients. This is the kind of moisturizer that you would use after your actives when your skin is irritated and sensitive.
A’PIEU Madecassoside Cream – $14
Madecassoside is one of the active components of Centella Asiatica Extract which is well known for it’s soothing benefits. This is another moisturizer that is perfect for sensitive skin. Specific oily sensitive skin.
It is formulated with Niacinamide to control sebum production. As well as Green Tea, Urea, Panthenol, Witch Hazel Leaf Extract and Allantoin.
Klairs Rich Moist Smoothing Cream – $23
This is another rich moist cream that is packed with so much good stuff. From antioxidants such as Carrot Root Extract to Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate which is a derivative of Vitamin C. To moisturizing ingredients like Ceramides, Sodium Hyaluronate which is a form of Hyaluronic Acid, Beta Glucan and Glycerin. To soothing ingredients like Centella and Aloe Vera Leaf Extract. Phew! So much good stuff! I definitely have this moisturizer on my wishlist.

Cosrx Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream – $20
Remember my new obsession with Ceramide moisturizers? This is another one I’m planning to try this winter. This has Centella Asiatica Leaf Water as the first ingredient. Followed closely by Ceramide, Panthenol, Niacinamide and Sodium Hyaluronate. A simple moisturizer with enough humectants and emollients to keep your skin well – moisturized.
Purito Deep Sea Pure Water Cream – $16
If you are into Korean Skincare and you don’t know about Purito, you’re definitely living under a rock. For some reason, this Deep Sea Pure Water Cream has recently become popular. A look at the ‘clean’ ingredient list tells you why. It has 60% of Sea Water as its first ingredient which is pretty good. Followed by Niacinamide, Adenosine, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol and Allantoin. Just all good stuff even the most sensitive skin.
Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream – $25
Illiyoon as a brand is currently having its moment with their massive sizes. Imagine getting a 500ml product for less than $15. Right now, they are currently a more refined version of Cerave. This particular Concentrate cream is formulated with Ceramide Skin Complex™. This is a patented ingredient jointly developed by Amorepacific and AESTURA, using world’s first Ceramide encapsulation technology. It encapsulates ceramides that form the skin barrier, helping to deliver and absorb valuable ingredients deep into the skin according to IncideCoder.
I currently have this cream on the way as it is being touted as the thickest moisturizer for the winter. Asides from Ceramides, it also has Ginseng Root Extract and Cholesterol with tons of other emollients and a few humectants.
Innisfree Green Tea Seed Cream – $18
Innisfree currently has a bad reputation in the Korean Skincare community for being the brand that still formulates with fragrance. I’ve used quite a number of Innisfree products and the fragrance has never bothered me. If you’re also in the same situation as me, then you should try out their products.
The Green Tea line is one of their most popular product lines. If I’m not mistaken, they’re also the first set of brands to popularize Green Tea in products. I’ve used this cream before and I really enjoyed it. It has Green Tea as the first ingredient with Cholesterol and tons of other plant extracts.
