This post will review the Cerave Ultra Light Moisturizing Gel.
If there’s one thing Cerave is globally known for, it is its moisturizers, the most famous of which is the Cerave Moisturizing Cream.
So imagine my surprise when I saw that they launched a long overdue gel moisturizer sometime last year.
My curiosity was peaked, and I wanted to know if they would successfully adapt their cream formula into a gel version.
Of course, it is not possible for them to be the exact same, but they can provide similar benefits.
So, I immediately ordered one from Amazon US to try out as it is not available in the UK yet, and I have some thoughts about it.

First Impressions of the Cerave Ultra-Light Moisturizing Gel
According to Cerave:
CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Gel provides lasting hydration with a weightless feel on the skin.
This hydrating facial gel delivers powerful moisturizing ingredients in a refreshing, lightweight texture.
Its fast-absorbing, water-based formula glides onto the skin easily without tugging or pulling.
The skin feels softer, soothed, and hydrated after use.
It also layers well under makeup and sunscreen.
Our lightweight moisturizer, formulated with dermatologists, contains three essential ceramides: niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and MVE Technology.
It delivers all-day, continuous hydration.
It’s suitable for all skin types (including sensitive skin) and is fragrance-free, paraben-free, and oil-free.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
At this point, the Cerave ingredient list is formulaic.
As someone who has reviewed almost a dozen Cerave products, I expect to see certain ingredients in all of them.
This gel moisturizer isn’t any different.
The key ingredients include:
- Niacinamide
- Three Essential Ceramides
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Cholesterol
- Vitamin E
Same old, same old.
But this is not necessarily a bad thing.
It just means that people who haven’t been able to use the moisturizer for various reasons now have the chance to in a gel format.
As always, this product is free of essential oils, alcohol, and fragrances.
It is also non-comedogenic and oil-free.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency
This moisturizer is packaged in a 52ml pump bottle, which is too tiny.
It should be at least 100ml or even 236ml, so it’s on par with the rest of the Cerave moisturizers.
The product has a lightweight gel texture which feels weightless on the skin.
It literally feels like nothing on the skin
That’s how quickly it absorbs.
So for anyone with oily to combination skin, this moisturizer is definitely right up your alley.
Price & Availability
I got this product from Amazon US for about $13.
It is Cerave’s latest release, so it’s not yet available here in the UK.
If you typically order products from Amazon US, it is worth trying out.
But if you don’t, just wait until it is available locally.
I’m honestly not a fan of the price-to-quantity ratio; it feels like cash grab.
The price is too low, and I’m wondering what Cerave’s incentive is to get people to purchase, as there are cheaper gel moisturizers on the market.
Review of the Cerave Ultra-Light Moisturizing Gel

Despite having dry, dehydrated skin, I love a good gel moisturizer, especially in the Summertime.
I always keep one around in my sea of thick emollient cream moisturizers.
As a result, I’m always on the lookout for interesting gel formulas.
If you’re not aware, gel moisturizers are not made equally.
Similar to cream moisturizers, some are more hydrating than others.
My favourite gel moisturizer so far is the Elf Superhydrate, and I’m constantly looking for products that can beat it.
Performance
This is a great no-fills gel moisturizer that does what it needs to do.
Upon application, you can tell that it isn’t your average one, especially when you consider the key ingredients.
It is rich and also managed to be lightweight.
Unsurprisingly, it also sinks immediately the skin on the application without leaving any trace behind.
While some people love a matte finish, I’m always on the lookout for products with natural or dewy finishes.
There’s nothing worse than applying a product, and there’s no difference in your face.
This is why gel moisturizers are either layered under hydrating toners or are reserved for the warmer months.
Finally
Cerave has become a global household name in the last decade, so it’s only right that they want to ensure that their products appeal to everyone.
Despite the popularity of the Cerave moisturizers, I’m sure some people are still left out and unable to use them for various reasons.
Hence, I believe there’s a market for this gel moisturizer.
So if you happen to be one of those people, the Cerave Ultra-Light Moisturizing Gel is for you.
