Kikumasamune Sake Brewing Skin Care Lotion Glossy Moist- Review

*This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link! This supports me and keeps my blog running.*

This post will review the Kikumasamune Sake Brewing Skin Care Lotion Glossy Moist.

A few months ago, I was scrolling through Amazon Japan like I usually do when I’m bored with Korean Skincare products or just want to see what’s new in the Japanese market.

I’ve found that new releases are almost always sold on Amazon since the sellers are based in Japan.

Also, shipping to the UK is not too bad, and it is delivered within two weeks.

I’ll share my thoughts about shipping from Japan to the UK in a separate post.

Whilst doing the usual mindless scrolling, I immediately added some interesting products to my wishlist until I stumbled on two different variations of the Japanese classic, Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion.

Everyone in the Asian Beauty community has either come across this product or, most likely, used a bottle or two in their routine.

I’ve personally gone through a couple of bottles, as it used to be a staple in my routine, but I had to stop because the size prevented me from trying other products to review on this blog.

So, imagine my excitement when I saw the Glossy Moist version of one of my favourite products.

I immediately grabbed it, as well as a couple of other products, and checked out.

I’m about a quarter through the bottle, and I thought I should share my thoughts.

First Impressions of the Kikumasamune Sake Brewing Skin Care Lotion Glossy Moist

According to Ratzilla Cosme, the online authority for Japanese skincare:

Kikumasamune Sake Brewing Skincare Lotion Glossy Moist is an anti-ageing lotion targeted at ageing skin.

It is formulated for skin with signs of ageing.

The moisture-replenishing toner has an extra rich texture to firm and plump the skin.

Ingredient List & Fragrance

The Kikumasamune skincare brand is basically named after the Japanese brewery of the same name.

This means that the primary ingredient in all their products is Sake which is Japanese Rice Liquor.

It’s similar to Cerave, which has the three Essential Ceramides in all their products.

I’ve used a couple of products from this brand, so I’m not a stranger to the formulation.

My skin is actually very familiar with it.

Compared to the High Moist version, which only has Amino Acids and Ceramides, the Glossy version has gone a step further and includes Arbutin and Niacinamide.

I’m not sure when those two ingredients started being used to target ageing concerns, but it’s Japan, and maybe things are a bit different over there.

Anyway, I’m not particularly fussy about the ingredients as I only use the product for hydration purposes.

But it’s good to know that there’s some good stuff.

In terms of fragrance, it still retains that subtle Sake scent that dissipates on application.

Some people can’t stand the smell of liquor on their bodies, but it isn’t that bad, trust me.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency

One of the reasons why the Kikumasamune lotions are incredibly popular is because of the massive 500ml size they come in.

We call them jumbo toners.

When many companies are trying to give us as less products for more money, these Japanese companies still give us 500ml toners for next to nothing.

Which is why I’ll always stan the Japanese skincare industry.

Thankfully, the product comes in a pump bottle, which makes it super easy to drench your entire body in it.

In terms of texture and consistency, the Glossy Moist is richer than the High Moist, which is somewhat watery.

It’s not particularly viscous, it’s just more textured which makes it more hydrating in the process.

If you loved the High Moist or the Emulsion, you’ll definitely love the Glossy Moist.

If you’re new to Kikumasamune products, I suggest you try the High Moist version first.

Price & Availability

As I mentioned earlier, I got this shipped directly from Amazon Japan for less than $10 sometime last year.

The official retail price is 1200 Japanese Yen which is about $8.

But when you factor in shipping and taxes, the price goes up a bit to $15-25, which is honestly not bad for the quantity you get.

The 500ml bottle tends to last for a few months, depending on your usage.

So, check on eBay for a seller you buy directly from or get it from YesStyle.

Review of the Kikumasamune Sake Brewing Skin Care Lotion Glossy Moist

I’m currently using Tretinoin 0.1% in my nighttime routine, which means I need all the hydration I can get.

As a result of the slightly thicker texture, I tend to layer this product after all my thinner/watery products.

In my current routine, I layer the Kikumasamune Glossy Moist Sake Lotion after my Cosrx Full Fit Synergy Toner and Snail Mucin Power Essence.

The latter products have a thinner consistency, which sets a great foundation for the Glossy Moist lotion.

Performance

I’ve used this brand for years, and I’ve never been disappointed.

The hydration my skin gets is simply unmatched.

If I decide to stop experimenting with skincare and just stick to one brand, this is definitely one of the brands I’ll consider.

The 500ml is massive enough to use from head to toe.

You can apply several layers on your face without it feeling tacky as it just sinks into your skin.

And the glow and plumpness afterwards?

Simply stunning!

You can literally feel your dull, dehydrated skin come back to life in minutes.

That’s how amazing this product is.

Kikumasamune High Moist vs Glossy Moist

To summarise, the only difference between the Kikumasamune High Moist vs Glossy Moist is the ingredient list and the texture of the lotions.

They both have the same ingredient list, except niacinamide and arbutin, which have been included in the Glossy Moist.

The Glossy Moist is also thicker than the watery High Moist.

The differences are as simple as that.

Finally

There are only a few skincare products that bring me genuine joy, and the Kikumasamune Sake Brewing Skin Care Lotion Glossy Moist is one of them.

So, if you want to dabble into Japanese Skincare and you’re looking for products to add to your wishlist, this is one of them.
