This post will review the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel.
Once in a while, I come across fantastic skincare products, and I’m shocked that I didn’t discover them sooner. I like to think I have vast skincare knowledge across three continents. So I’m genuinely shocked when a product slips by me.
Then again, it might be a result of the price range of some of these products. I try not to experiment with ‘luxury products’ because, in my opinion, they are usually overpriced, and skincare should be affordable. Plus, most times, I find cheaper alternative Asian versions anyway.
I honestly cannot remember the first time I saw the Dr Dennis Gross Peel Pads but the most recent times I’ve seen it has been on TikTok because I spend an unhealthy amount of time there. I saw two ladies rave about how amazing it is, and I decided to check out the price; just for the sake of it. Initially, I thought it was costly and way above my budget until I found a sample size. If there’s one thing about me, I’ll always get a sample size to test out.
I think this is the first time I’ve bought a product with someone’s name on it. Dr Dennis Gross is an internationally renowned dermatologist with a skincare line. There’s been some hype about his products here and there that I’ve noticed over the years.
I’ve used the 5 pack sample sizes for the past five weeks and I’m ready to share my thoughts.
First Impressions of the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel
According to Dr Dennis Gross:
A fast-acting, two-step daily treatment with 7 AHA/BHAs to dramatically boost radiance, refine pores, clear breakouts, and smooth lines and wrinkles.
The #1 at-home peel for 20+ years. Best for combination/oily skin, advanced aging or blemish concerns. Step 1 is packed with 7 AHA/BHAs to gently but effectively exfoliate for immediate radiance, refined pores, diminish lines & wrinkles, and clear blemishes while step 2 neutralizes acid activity, hydrates, and delivers anti-aging actives for dramatically smoother, more radiant, healthier-looking skin.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
As you can see, this is a two-step peel pad which both have different ingredients. So let’s analyze them one at a time.
Step 1: Exfoliate & Smooth
The core ingredients include:
- AHAs; Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Citric Acid,
- Witch Hazel Water
- Salicylic Acid
- Benzoic Acid
- Willow Bark Extract
- Green Tea Extract
- Chamomile Extract
- Zinc & Copper PCA
Step 2: Anti-Aging Neutralizer
The core ingredients also include:
- Resveratrol
- Retinol
- Ascorbic Acid
- Ascorbyl Palmitate
- Retinyl Palmitate
- Green Tea
- Copper, Sodium & Zinc PCA
Both steps have alcohol and fragrance but are essential oil free.
To summarize, peel pads are two-step exfoliating and treatment products focusing on anti-ageing. Honestly, I can’t fault this ingredient list. It has most of the core ingredients you need for healthy skin. If you decide to streamline or minimize your skincare products, this is the perfect two-step treatment product you need.
Packaging, Texture & Consistency
Instead of a typical serum, the products come in a concentrated peel pad, which you just need to rub all over your face, neck and chest. I’m generally not a fan of the friction from using cotton pads regularly. But this is a thin pad that is quite convenient to use. After a few times, you get used to it.
The pads are not too heavy with serums, just damp enough for the face. Despite the dampness, they pack a punch and don’t dry out immediately. One pad is enough to go over my face to my chest a couple of times.
Price & Availability
These peel pads come in three different sizes based on the quantity. They include:
- 5pack for $17/£18
- 30pack for $88/£87
- 60pack for $150/£149
It is not the cheapest at $3.4/£6 per peel pad, especially since it is a one-use product. The product is unnecessary, but it is nice to try it out once in a while when you’re bored with your products.
Review of the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel
My biggest problem with this product is that it is expected to be used daily. For the love of your skin barrier, please don’t use these peels daily. They’re too strong for daily usage, and your skin does not require that much intensity daily.
How To Use Safely
Now, there are two ways you can approach this product depending on your skincare level. For beginners to intermediate levels; it is advisable to use it 1-2 times a week. I promise you’ll still get the same results. I used these pads once a week for four weeks, which still made a difference to my skin. So tread carefully and cautiously.
Also, as a beginner, you should try the milder version of this first – Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel – before using this one.
I feel like intermediate to advanced users who want a deep peel are the target audience for this product. If you are one, you can use it for one week straight without anything else. This means the peel pads will be your only treatment for a week. You could just buy the pack of five and exhaust it at once.
This also means that you’ll not use any Vitamin C, Retinol or Exfoliating Acids while you use this product for a week. The only product you should stick to is hydrating toners, serums and sunscreen for the entire week.
To maximize the effectiveness of these peel pads and restore your skin barrier, you can also take the following week off without any treatments focusing on soothing and healing products such as the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 to repair your skin.
Performance
This is easily one of the most impressive products I’ve used this year. I thought it was just hype but it truly works. I typically use it on Monday night to start the week on dry skin and swipe it all over my face down to my chest; the difference has been outstanding.
My skin is literally so smooth without any texture for a few days. I feel like you start to notice the difference in your skin by the second or third day after application. There’s such an instant and immediate glow to your skin. Since it is packed with 7 AHAs & BHAs, the smoothened texture is the first and most significant difference you’ll notice.
Trust me, nothing uplifts your mood like seeing a glance of your smooth skin in the mirror. Using this product on dry skin is also essential as it tends to sting on application and as you move the pad around your face.
Is it expensive? Oh definitely!
Is it necessary? Debateable!
But is it worth it? Absolutely!
In Summary
I’m delighted to have been able to try out the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel. While it might not necessarily become a staple in my routine, I know I can always grab it on sale when I want to give my skin a well-deserved treat.
