This post will review the Haruharu Black Rice range.
Anyone following my blog since its inception in 2019 knows how much a huge fan I am Korean Skincare.
I have dry, dehydrated skin, and Korean toners saved my skin.
While it is still dry, it is not as dehydrated any more, thanks to the layers of hydrating toners I use daily.
As someone who has run through several bottles, I always seek new brands to try.
Naturally, when I see a new toner that piques my interest, I get a sample first to try out.
I don’t have to commit to the entire bottle if the product isn’t hydrating or viscous enough for my skin.
I picked a sample of the HaruHaru Black Rice Toner sometime last year to try on one of my trips.
I remember being impressed with it and immediately including it in my next haul.
Imagine my surprise when the Haruharu team reached out to me to try some of the products in their bestselling range.
Since I tested the toner and my skin loved it, I was excited to try the rest of the range.
I’ve used the products for a bit now, and I’ll be sharing a brief review of each of the four products. I received:
First Impressions of the HaruHaru Wonder Black Rice Range
Haruharu Wonder is a Korean skincare brand that formulates natural skincare products.
They’re more or less a clean beauty brand.
According to Hauharu Wonder:
They develop top-grade all-natural skincare that is at the forefront of innovative fermented ingredients, which delivers visible results with assured safeness
Regarding using innovative fermented ingredients, I completely agree with the brand as their very range of products is formulated with Black Rice.
Before this, to my knowledge, there wasn’t any brand on the market formulating with Black Rice.
Black Rice extracts, like Mugwort and Ginseng, provide anti-ageing benefits while nourishing and moisturizing the skin to improve its texture and firmness.
So, if your skin tolerates fermented ingredients, it is worth trying out Black Rice.
My skin doesn’t react badly to fermented ingredients as long as the product is hydrating enough.
Speaking of which, it is only natural that I kick off the review with my favourite product so far:
Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Acid Toner
Key Ingredients: Ginseng, Hyaluronic Acid, Betaine, Beta Glucan
I’m a sucker for good hydrating toners.
I don’t care what anyone says about toners being an extra unnecessary step in your skincare routine.
It is necessary for me, and my skin can’t live without them.
This toner is lightweight with just the right viscosity.
It’s not watery and too heavy but hydrating enough to apply multiple layers and instantly absorb the skin.
While you can use this toner straight from the bottle, I prefer it on damp skin like any Hyaluronic acid-based product.
The toner comes in two versions: the scented with essential oils and the unscented without essential oils.
The latter is geared towards people with sensitive skin.
What can I say? I loved the product before, and I still love it now, and it will be my stable toner this winter.
Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Daily Sunscreen Unscented SPF50+ PA++++
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide, Phytosphingosine, Ceramide, Vitamin E, Adenosine.
My next favourite product is the Black Rice sunscreen.
I’ve previously seen this product and made a mental note to grab one during my next sunscreen haul.
Like toners, I don’t joke with my Korean and Japanese sunscreens.
They have single-handedly helped me develop a habit of wearing sunscreen daily because they are easy to apply.
This one isn’t any different.
This sunscreen has chemical filters, which include Uvinul T 150, Mexoryl SX, Uvinul A Plus, Parsol SLX. and Tinosorb S, that provide adequate protection against UVA rays that cause premature ageing and UVB rays that cause sunburns.
The product is formulated in a pump bottle, which dispenses just the right amount you need without being messy.
Possibly, my favourite thing about sunscreen is how emollient/moisturizing it is despite being lightweight.
While I also appreciate watery sunscreens, particularly for the warmer months, my dry, dehydrated skin will always appreciate emollient sunscreens.
The product applies beautifully and absorbs into the skin without leaving any white cast or stinging the eyes.
If you have oily skin, you’ll be happy to know that it is non-greasy and leaves a smooth velvet finish, so you can skip the moisturizer.
Most importantly, it is fragrance-free, which is perfect for sensitive skin.
Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil
Key Ingredients: Rice Bran Oil, Olive Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E,
When it comes to cleansing oils and balms, my skin isn’t really picky about it.
This is mainly because they are rinse-off products.
As long as the cleansing oils are not too heavy, I always appreciate a well-formulated one that is easy to use.
This one from Haruharu isn’t any different.
It’s not as watery as a couple that I’ve used before, but it is lightweight enough.
You only need a couple of pumps to take off sunscreen and makeup.
It can completely take off everyday makeup with no issues whatsoever.
Also, it is formulated with 95% plant oils without essential oils and fragrance, so there’s little to no chance of irritation.
Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel
Key Ingredients: Ginseng, Beta Glucan, Glycerin
After the first cleanse with a cleansing oil, finishing up with a foaming cleanser is only fitting.
While I don’t have strong preferences regarding cleansing oils, I am very particular about foaming cleansers.
I need my skin to be as hydrated as possible afterwards.
So, even if a cleanse is not necessarily stripping, it has to leave my skin hydrated to an extent.
Hence, I had high hopes for this cleanser.
I love how soft it feels to use.
The foaming gel feels particularly softer than anything I’ve used and is generally pleasant to use.
It’s also a great accompaniment to the cleansing oil as it ensures your skin is properly cleansed.
While it cleaned my skin without stripping it, it also did not really leave it as hydrated as I would have preferred it to be.
Of course, for certain people with normal to combination skin, this cleanser might be enough.
But for someone like me with dry, dehydrated skin, I thought it lacked something; maybe it’s the absence of Hyaluronic Acid.
Having used several Hyaluronic Acid cleansers, I can always tell the difference.
Either way, I’ll reserve this cleanser for my makeup days when I need a deep cleanse.
In Conclusion
I’ve definitely enjoyed using the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice range of products, and I recommend it to anyone, including those with sensitive skin.
The products are formulated with the best natural ingredients and are free from alcohol, essential oils and fragrance.
