Purito Daily Go-To Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ – Review

This post will be reviewing the Purito Daily Go-To Sunscreen.

Every time I wanted to buy this sunscreen at Jolse, it was always sold out. So I emailed them and asked when they would restock to monitor it. I honestly did not expect people to still purchase Purito products, given the scandal that shook the industry in 2020.

Long story short:

A popular website editor privately investigated the accuracy of the sunscreen claims. This is because she shouldn’t accept that the susncreen provided full broad spectrum protection; given the number of filters used and its incredible cosmetic elegance. After testing out the sunscreen in two different labs, it tuned out to be super low. About SPF 16 or thereabout. This sparked the conversation about unverified sunscreens and caused a few brands to pull their products off the market.

As you can imagine, it was a big deal, and many people officially swore against Asian sunscreens, which is just racist and xenophobic. If you do your research, you’ll realise that tons of American and European sunscreens have also been caught with unverified sunscreens.

Anyway, I didn’t take the issue personally as I believe it is one of those things. Any brand that says they are perfect is lying to you. I continued to use their products and waited patiently until a re-formulated sunscreen was released.

This was released in 2021, but I waited for the first batch of reviews before purchasing mine. Now that I have tried it, I’m ready to share my thoughts.

First Impressions of the Purito Daily Go-To Sunscreen

According to Purito;

The new PURITO hybrid sunscreen is formulated with both chemical and physical filters to provide exceptionally high, broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

This sunscreen has been designed specifically for easy re-application and effective performance when worn with makeup or alone.

The fragrance-free and moisturizing formula instantly melts on the skin during application, allowing an easy and even spread.

Ingredient List & Fragrance

With this re-formulated sunscreen, everyone’s primarily concerned with the number of filters used. Purito ensured they did their homework with this release by using adequate filters and proving it is verified by two separate labs. You can find the result of the lab test on their website.

This time around, they used four hybrid filters; one physical and three chemical. They include:

• Tinosorb S – provides UVA & UVB protection.
• Uvinul T 150  – provides UVB protection.
• Titanium Dioxide – provides UVA & UVB protection.
• Uvinul A Plus – provides UVA proetction

According to the test results, these four filters come together to give you an SPF of 71.4 (correct me if I’m wrong). I hope this is enough evidence that this is a verified sunscreen.

As for the other ingredients, Purito played it safe and kept it simple by just sticking to soothing ingredients in the Centella Asiatica family;

• Madecassic Acid
• Asiatic Acid
• Asiaticoside
• and of course, Centella Asiatica Extract.

So, they skipped Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid and just focused on making the formula emollient/moisturising. I honestly don’t mind at all.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency

It is packaged in its usual 60ml tube with an applicator nozzle. It has the typical lightweight, cosmetically elegant texture that most Korean sunscreens have. But it is also slightly different because it is more emollient. It is thicker than their previous formula and needs a few extra minutes to blend in. If we have to sacrifice cosmetic elegance for high protection. Count me in. My dry, dehydrated skin absolutely loves this formula. It’s nowhere near my holy grail; Bondi Sands Face SPF 50+, but it is close. You can conveniently skip the moisturiser with this new formula for other skin types, and you’ll be fine.

What can I say? Purito came through again, and I’m impressed.

It officially retails at $19.50 on the Purito’s website, but you can get it cheaper in a few Asian retailers.

Review of the Purito Daily Go-To Sunscreen

I won’t lie; I had really high expectations for this sunscreen. Given what Purito has been through in the last couple of years, I fully expected them to come through, and they did.

Performance

I apply this sunscreen at the last step of my morning routine under my essence and serum. With its emollient consistency, I conveniently skipped the moisturiser. Plus, it is Spring and a bit warm. I use two full finger applications, going one at a time. After the first application, I noticed a slight white cast which is to be expected because of the Titanium Dioxide. This means that by the second application, I blended it a bit more, and the white cast began to disappear. It was nothing too crazy like you’ll typically get from mineral sunscreens. It’s just slight and is completely blendable. Obviously, you can just skip the blending and layer your makeup over it if you wear makeup.

To summarise, here are the pros and cons of the sunscreen:

Pros

• Hybrid sunscreen with both physical and chemical filters
• Moisturising
• Non-greasy and non-sticky
• Doesn’t sting the eyes.
• Can work across most skin types.
• Doesn’t pill; it layers well under makeup and over skincare products.
• Leaves a natural finish.
• Suitable for sensitive skin as well.

Cons

• Leaves a slight white cast which needs to be blended or layered with makeup.
• Not necessarily water-resistant or sweat-proof.

Finally,

There’s no doubt that Purito knows how to formulate a great sunscreen. This is a significant improvement from the previous products. Plus, ensuring that their products were verified by two separate labs is also commendable. How many brands have you seen publishing lab reports of their sunscreens? If you are still sceptical, hopefully, this should change your mind.
