Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream – Review

This post will be reviewing the Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream.

The other day, I reviewed the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion, which I found slightly underwhelming for my dry, dehydrated skin. I understand its significance in the drugstores, but it wasn’t enough for me. So, I went ahead to test out the second popular Aveeno moisturizer, the Dermexa Emollient Cream.

I have very high standards set by the French Pharmacy skincare brands regarding body moisturisers. They know how to formulate a banging moisturizer, so I typically try not to deviate. Because more often than not, I’m always disappointed by the US/UK market selection. I remember the days I struggled with Vaseline, Jergens and even Neutrogena body lotions. They never really did anything except I layered them with other emollient products. But these days, La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP+M is enough to keep my skin moisturized all day.

Aveeno is a staple drugstore brand, especially for those sensitive and prone to eczema, which many people are. Imagine not having access to a dermatologist to prescribe medicated products, but Aveeno products always come through as a temporary fix. Would it become a bestseller? Of course, it would.

I’ve used this moisturizer and am ready to share my thoughts.

First Impressions of the Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream

According to Aveeno:

Formulated with a Prebiotic Triple Oat Complex* and Ceramides. The formula moisturises soothes and helps strengthen the skin barrier. Helps to reduce flare-ups of intense skin dryness. It helps to improve the skin’s natural microbiome balance for healthy-looking and more resilient skin from day 1.

Contains Prebiotic Triple Oat Complex* (colloidal oatmeal, oat oil and oat essence) and ceramides.

Suitable for very dry itchy skin. Also suitable for eczema prone skin.

This one is much more interesting than the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion’s ingredient list, which I found basic. It is packed with the following;

• Glycerin
• Panthenol
• Petrolatum
• Oat Flour, Oat Extract & Oat Oil.
• Ceramides and
• Vitamin E.

This has the perfect combination of humectant – Glycerin – and emollient – Petrolatum – with soothing ingredients like the Triple Oat Complex and Panthenol sprinkled with Ceramides and Vitamin E to strengthen the skin’s barrier. I absolutely love it!

The best thing? It is also fragrance-free.

Packaging, Texture & Consistecy

This moisturizer is packaged in a 200ml tube. Unfortunately, it only comes in one size I’ve seen so far. It has a creamy consistency which dries down to a non-greasy finish. On first impressions, the tube comes out as an emollient which is deceptively lightweight. But on further application, you’ll find it is quite a heavy-duty product due to the Petrolatum. This is an excellent option if you also have dry, sensitive skin and lotions are not enough to moisturize your skin.

Price & Availability

I’ve found that this moisturizer isn’t as widely available as its counterpart, so you have to look very hard. But you’ll find it in select drugstores and online.

Review of the Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream

I have a lot of expectations for this product, primarily because of the Petroleum, which in my opinion, automatically upgrades the product. I expected it to perform similarly to my French Pharmacy body moisturizers which mostly use Mineral Oil as opposed to Petrolatum, and let me tell you that it did a bit.

Performance

So, I use this moisturizer after showering or when my skin starts feeling dry, and you can immediately feel the difference after application. It’s like a heavy film over your skin which is non-greasy, but deep moisturization and nourishment. The Triple Oat complex and Panthenol instantly soothe your skin. It might feel heavy initially but it absorbs into your skin over time.

If you’re uncomfortable with it, try using less product. But over time, it becomes a lot more comfortable. I don’t precisely have eczema and don’t experience itching, so I can’t exactly speak on it. But for someone with chronically dry skin, this product also works for me.

It is worth pointing out here that this product might not work for everyone. Suppose you hate the feeling of moisturizer on your body and prefer it to sink right into your skin without leaving residue behind. In that case, you might want to stick to the original Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. I found it too lightweight, which is why this Aveeno Dermexa Daily Emollient Cream is right up my alley.

There’s a significant difference between both products. While the former has a basic lightweight formula of Glycerin, Mineral Oil and Oat Kernel Flour, the latter is packed with the Triple Oat Complex, Panthenol, Ceramides and Petrolatum and is an emollient, more moisturizing formula.

Finally

This is really a great moisturizer. I’m impressed with the quality despite being a drugstore product and I hope it works for you as much as it does for me.
