This post will be reviewing the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream.
It’s been a while since I’ve been impressed with a moisturizer.
The other day, I reviewed the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum, which I loved so much.
I had bought the serum with the moisturizer from Jolse last year.
So, when it was time for me to finally use them, I was excited.
So far, Beauty of Joseon as a brand has not disappointed me.
This is why I’ve gone ahead to order the Propolis + Niacinamide Glow Serum as well as the newly launched Rice + Arbutin Glow Deep Serum.
Of course, I’ll be reviewing them as well, so stay tuned!
So, let’s get into the details of this impressive moisturizer.
First Impressions of the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
As I mentioned earlier in my previous review:
Beauty of Joseon is a Korean Skincare brand that formulates products with Hanbang; which is traditional Korean medicine.
So a lot of the ingredients you’ll see in their products are what the women in the Joseon Dynasty used to achieve flawless skin.
They describe themselves as Clean Hanbang Beauty which I think is just a way to differentiate themselves from the other Korean Clean Beauty brands.
According to the brand, the Dynasty Cream provides ample moisture to the skin through a dense and firm texture unique to the Beauty of Joseon cream for gently radiant skin.
Ingredient List
Earlier this year, the Dynasty Cream was renewed to include a few new ingredients.
So, for the sake of transparency, I’m gonna share both ingredient lists so you can tell the difference.
2020 Ingredient List
- Niacinamide
- Vitamin E
- Plant Extracts: Centella Asiatica Extract, Calendula Flower Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract
- Sodium Hyaluronate
- Ceramide
- Olive Fruit Oil
- Safflower Seed Oil
- Adenosine
- Fragrance.
Ohh, see how packed it is!
2021 Ingredient List
The old version was renewed to include more brightening and barrier-strengthening ingredients.
- 29% Rice Bran Water
- 2% Squalane
- Plant Extracts: Honey Extract, Chinese Fruit Extract, Cocoa Seed Extract, Japanese Goldthread Extract,
- 3 Types of Hyaluronic Acid
- Fragrance – Free.
So, the significant difference between both versions is the addition of some other beneficial ingredients.
They also listened to their customer feedback and took out fragrance from the renewed version.
I don’t think I’ve ever used a moisturizer packed with so many beneficial ingredients with little to no fluff.
It truly is a dynasty cream.
Texture, Consistency & Fragrance
It has a creamy consistency that manages to be semi-thick and lightweight at the same time.
At first glance, you’ll probably think that it’s a gel product, but after application, you’ll find that the texture is very deceiving.
As it feels emollient and leaves a film over your face.
Unlike some other moisturizers, it doesn’t completely absorb into the skin, which is honestly fine.
It is the perfect product to layer under a matte sunscreen.
As for the fragrance, it is mild and subtle.
I generally don’t have issues with fragrance in products, but it is understandable if some people don’t want it.
But I’m glad they took it out in the 2021 version.
Price, Availability & Packaging
Although it’s not the most hygenic, I don’t mind its packaging in a portable pot.
The packaging is unique as it reflects the tradition and culture of the brand.
I prefer this to the 2021 packaging.
For a 60g worth of product, it retails for about $20, which is not the most affordable.
But as always, I ensure I get this kind of product when it’s on sale.
Review of the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
I’ve been using this product for the last month as my morning moisturizer for the Autumn, just before I retired it for the winter.
It got icy overnight, so I had to whip out my heavy-duty Bondi Sands Face SPF 50+, which doubles as my moisturizer and sunscreen.
I used it after my serum under my Kose Suncut UV Protect Essence SPF 50++++, and the glow was unreal.
Performance
First, if you have oily skin, this moisturizer might feel too heavy for you.
But it might work in the colder months as you’ll need that extra layer of moisture.
But I’ll highly recommend this product for any skin type that is prone to dehydration or is struggling with a compromised or damaged skin barrier.
So, in the mornings, after spritzing my face with a toner mist and a treatment serum,
I go over my face with a slightly larger pea-sized product and apply it all over it.
While it doesn’t absorb fully into my skin immediately, it dried down after application.
Then I go over it with my sunscreen, and I’m done for the day.
As I mentioned earlier, it leaves a slightly greasy film all over my face after application, which I don’t mind as this keeps my skin moisturized and nourished for longer.
This is probably the most lightweight emollient moisturizer I’ve ever used.
But unfortunately, it’s not enough to sustain me during the winter alone.
Finally,
The Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream is such a thrill to use.
The texture, packaging and application give a luxurious experience.
I honestly can’t believe it has taken me this long to use it.
Plus, it’s packed with so much good stuff.
What’s not to love?!
My only issue is probably the size of the product.
The quantity feels so tiny.
Then again, I get bored of products quickly, so I really don’t mind.
