This post will be reviewing the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum.
This summer, I found myself stripping my extensive skincare routines to the bare minimum.
While I had initially planned to simplify my routine for the Summer before going back to layering during the Autumn/Winter, the heatwave here in the U.K. did not help at all.
So, I swapped out all my heavy-duty products for lightweight options. I needed products that would sink immediately into my skin and not feel heavy.
I swapped out my toners for face mists and essences for serums.
At first, I was slightly worried that I would need to get new serums, but then I remembered that I had an entire stash and a few bottles lying around.
One of which is the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum. I got this a while ago, but I just never got around to using it.
I’ve been using it for a few weeks, and I’m happy to talk about it.
First Impressions of the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum
Beauty of Joseon is a Korean Skincare brand that formulates products with Hanbang; which is traditional Korean medicine.
So a lot of the ingredients you’ll see in their products are what the women in the Joseon Dynasty used to achieve flawless skin.
They describe themselves as Clean Hanbang Beauty, which I think is just a way to differentiate themselves from the other Korean Clean Beauty brands.
According to the brand,
A light-weight, but nourishing serum enriched with Hanbang (traditional Korean herbal medicine) ingredients for deep hydration
Simple and short!
Ingredient List
The Beauty of Joseon currently has four Hanbang serums in their collection, namely;
- Calming Serum: Green tea + Panthenol
- Glow Serum: Propolis + Niacinamide
- SHOP ON STYLEVANA: Ginseng + Snail Mucin and the recently released
- Glow Deep Serum: Rice + Arbutin
While I could easily have picked all three serums, I had to choose one and settled for the Repair Serum simply because of the ingredient list. It includes;
- 63.36% of Ginseng Root Water
- 3% Snail Mucin
- 2% Niacinamide
- 2% Adenosine
- Licorice Root Extract
- Hyaluronic Acid
Can you see how packed the ingredient list is?
It was obviously a no-brainer to choose this product. It has all the good stuff I always look out for in my products.
Ginseng for anti-ageing. Snail Mucin and Hyaluronic acid for hydration. Adenosine for soothing. Niacinamide and Licorice Root Extract for brightening.
It’s also alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free.
Plus, they were transparent enough to reveal the percentages of the primary ingredients.
It’s a YES for me for transparency!
Phew! What’s not to love?!
Texture & Consistency
Here, I am looking for a lightweight hydrating serum that I can use during the heatwave that won’t leave my skin feeling heavy or greasy.
To be honest, I went in with zero expectations, but at the same time, I wasn’t expecting to be disappointed if you get what I mean.
This has a typical lightweight fluid consistency you’ll find in most serums.
Instead, it’s hydrating and, as such, goes on very smoothly and doesn’t leave a tacky finish.
One full pipette is usually enough for my entire face. It’s really a very pleasant experience when using this product.
While it is non-sticky and doesn’t pill, a little goes a long way.
Price & Avalaibility
My only issue with this product is its size. It comes in a measly 30ml pipette bottle, which I wish came in a bigger size.
I knew I was gonna exhaust it quickly, which is why I had to put up this review soon.
As for the price, it’s not too bad. You can get it online for less than $15/£15.
Review of the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum
As I mentioned earlier, I have a very simplified Summer AM Routine, which consists of a Toner Mist, Serum, Gel Moisturizer and SPF.
I use this product in my morning routine’s ‘serum’ step. I chose this for my AM instead of my PM because the latter is already packed with actives, and I wanted something I could use to complement the COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Toner I use.
Performance
I typically apply one full pipette onto my palm and cover my face. It’s usually enough, and I never want to reach out for extra.
In terms of hydration, it’s just perfect for the warmer months.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s enough for dry, dehydrated skin during the colder months. I must complement it with a heavy-duty toner and/or essence. But for the Summer?
It is a chef’s kiss! It’s not too much or too little. It’s just right.
I particularly love how soft, plump and hydrated my skin is. I also love how fast it sinks into my skin, preventing me from waiting.
My entire routine can be finished in about five minutes.
As for brightening, there aren’t so many brightening ingredients to make that much of a difference, to be honest.
But as with most Asian skincare products, the glowy/dewy look you get gives the illusion of a brighter complexion, which I honestly don’t mind.
In Conclusion,
Suppose you have oily to combination skin, or you’re simply looking for a lightweight hydrating serum that packs a punch during the warmer months. In that case, you must try the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum.
I’m impressed with this brand, and I can’t wait to finally open the Dynasty Cream I’ve had for over a year.
I’ll also purchase the Glow Deep Serum because I’m a sucker for any Arbutin products and the Ginseng Water Essence.
I’ve heard so many great things about the toner, and I’m looking forward to trying it as the weather gets colder.
