This post will review the Elf Hello Hydration Face Cream.
The other day I looked through my stash to find a suitable moisturiser to use alongside my Tretinoin. As a beginner, I’m currently doing the sandwich application method to prevent as much irritation as possible. So, I searched for a lightweight moisturiser without Shea Butter that I could layer under.
Surprisingly, this proved a challenge despite having half a dozen new moisturisers. Not until I checked my opened and abandoned stash and found this Elf Moisturiser, which I had opened a while ago.
For some reason, it stung so much the first time I used this moisturiser. Naturally, I tossed it to the side. In hindsight, my skin barrier was most likely damaged hence why it stung. Moisturisers shouldn’t irritate your skin for any reason.
Also, I’m trying not to buy more new skincare until I exhaust half of my current stash. This is why I’ve had no choice but to use this moisturiser these last few weeks.
In an exciting turn of events, I quite like it now, and I’m ready to share my thoughts.

First Impressions Of The Elf Hello Hydration Face Cream.
According to Elf:
A lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer that nourishes and plumps skin while delivering lasting hydration.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
When I purchased this product over a year ago, I didn’t realise there was a fragrance-free version. I just picked the first product without looking. Even though the tub I have literally smells like nothing, you’ll be happy to know that the fragranced version has been replaced with an SPF 30 version.
With that out the way, let’s explore the essential ingredients:
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Glycerin
- Niacinamide
- Peptides
- Squalane
- Panthenol
As you can see, this moisturiser has a super simple formula. Perhaps, my favourite thing about it is the absence of Shea Butter which has come in handy for me in the last couple of months.
So, you have Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin and Squalane for hydration and moisturisation. Niacinamide and Peptides to improve texture and even out skin tone, and Panthenol for soothing. All these ingredients work together to deliver a decent drugstore moisturiser that improves the skin barrier.

Packaging, Texture & Consistency
This product is packaged in a small 50g jar which is not the most hygenic as you must keep dipping your fingers in and out of it. It is also deceptively packaged as the entire product just fits into an internal jar which is more or less a fraction of the entire jar.
The moisturizer has a lightweight creamy consistency which dries down matte and absorbs immediately into the skin on application. As a result of the absence of an emollient like Shea Butter, it doesn’t have that heavy or greasy feeling. This makes it suitable to be used by all skin types.
Generally, it is nice to use and easy to layer under or over other skincare products and makeup. If you want to simplify your morning routine, I suggest you go for the Elf Hello Hydration Face Cream SPF30.
Price & Availability
This drugstore moisturizer retails for $13, which is not too bad. But due to the deceptive packaging, I highly suggest you get it on sale if possible.
Review Of The Elf Hello Hydration Face Cream.
I’ve used this moisturizer in my nighttime skincare routine for the past two months. I use it as my first moisturizer to seal all the hydration from my toners and serums before going in with my Tretinoin. It helps lock in all that moisture and creates a perfect nourishing base for my Tretinoin to prevent further irritation, dryness or flakiness.

Plus, it has all the good ingredients, including Niacinamide and Peptides, that supplement Retinoids excellently. This way, you don’t have to use separate single-ingredient serums.
I typically don’t have too much expectation for drugstore moisturizers because they are as basic as they come. So far, I’ve been really impressed with this moisturizer that I’m considering getting the SPF version.
For those with oily to combination skin that prefers gel-based products, try the Elf Superhydrate Moisturizer.
In Summary
If you’re looking for an affordable lightweight moisturizer with great ingredients that is also fragrance-free and works across all skin types, you need to try the Elf Hello Hydration Face Cream.
