This post will review the Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioning Gel.
Like most skincare enthusiasts, I adjust my skincare routines for the weather.
I usually switch out the heavy-duty products from the Autumn/Winter to lightweight products in the Spring/Summer.
This year hasn’t been any different.
Despite the unusually high temperatures this Summer, I have still managed to snag a holy grail gel moisturiser, and I couldn’t be happier.
I got this moisturiser a while ago, and I just tossed it aside because I knew it would be the perfect Summer moisturiser.
I also got the sister product, the Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner, because it has been on my wishlist for so long.
Immediately, the weather became too hot for creams and lotions, so I reached out for this gel.
Naturie is a Japanese skincare brand I’ve loved lately because of its products’ conditioning and moisturising properties.
They usually have a simple hydrating formula that works across all skin types.
The brand literally has only two products: the toner and the gel.
Talk about minimalism.
I’ve been using this gel moisturiser all Summer, and I’m ready to share my thoughts.
First Impressions of the Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioning Gel
According to Naturie:
Hatomugi gel holds water forms, “a protective film of the water” on the skin surface and gradually releases water. Continue supplying stratum corneum with water, skin keeps filled with moisture.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
The primary ingredient in this product is Hatomugi, also known as Job’s Tears or Coix Seed Extract.
It is rich in 12 amino acids, which support the skin’s barrier by enhancing moisture retention.
Other notable ingredients include:
- Glycerin
- Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate: a weak Vitamin C derivative.
- Vitamin E
As you can see, this is a very simple moisturiser with antioxidants and hydrating ingredients.
I also found out the formula has been reformulated, so now it is alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free.
Packaging, Texture & Consistency
The moisturiser has a thick gel texture that immediately sinks into your skin on application. Just like makeup, it is also buildable.
So you can start with a little and use as much as you want until you are satisfied.
The beauty is that even after using a generous quantity, your skin doesn’t feel heavy, tacky or greasy.
It sinks in nicely whilst leaving a nice glow.
Now, the only problem with this product is probably the packaging.
It is packaged in a 180g tub, which isn’t hygenic.
This is why I use it only after I’ve washed my face to prevent contaminating it.
Then again, I think this tub was intentional because it is the only way you can adequately slather your skin in it conveniently.
Price & Availability
As a Japanese product, you’ll mostly find this brand at Asian retail stores online or offline.
Make sure it is sealed when you’re purchasing to prevent buying counterfeits.
The official retail price is $13.99, which is not bad for the amount of product you get.
But you can definitely get it cheaper on sale.
Review of the Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioning Gel
I use this moisturiser as the last step of my Summer Skincare routine, either in the morning or at night.
I layer the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume a few times weekly for some barrier repair.
It has come through for me in these high temperatures because of its cooling features.
There’s something immediately refreshing after slathering yourself in it.
It’s the perfect Summer moisturiser.
Performance
This is a non-sticky gel which liquifies upon contact with the skin.
Even if it was sticky, I wouldn’t mind just layering a moisturising cream to seal the hydration.
I love how it hydrates, moisturises and refreshes my skin simultaneously, especially on those hot Summer nights when I want to skip my skincare routine.
So, if you have normal to dry skin and are looking for a lightweight gel moisturiser you can wear all year round on its own or layer under other heavy creams, this product is for you.
This is also perfect for anyone with oily skin who hates rich moisturisers.
Plus, it comes in a 180g tube, which lasts for months, depending on how heavy-handed you are with it.

In Summary
Japanese skincare products always come through for me, so I’ll always be a fan.
