Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50+ – Review

This post will be reviewing the Thank you Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50+

This is one of the products I bought on a whim after seeing it applied by a girl on TikTok. It looked like everything I needed in a sunscreen, and more so I bought it. I purchased it from an eBay seller in Korea, arriving in about two weeks. Plus, it was pretty affordable, so I thought, what could possibly go wrong?

I’m not very familiar with the Korean Skincare brand; Thank You Farmer. All I remember is that I’ve seen a few of their sunscreens here and there, and I wondered why they were more than $15. So trying this product was a huge gamble, especially since I’ve never used any of their products before.

A quick look at their portfolio shows that they formulate a few sunscreen products, which include;

• Silky Calming Sun Stick SPF 50+
• Shimmer Sun Essence SPF 30
• Light Sun Essence SPF 50+
• Safe Sun Fluid Age SPF 50+

I used this sunscreen briefly, and I have some thoughts.

First Impressions of the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50+

According to the brand,

A real hydrating sun cream with smoothness and hydrating moisture free of stickiness.

– Smooth and non-sticky texture.
– Deep hydrating as a moisturizing cream.
– Radiance and smoothness that leave after penetration.
– High sunscreen capacity without excess whitening.
– Contains natural extracts such as phyto-oligo, inca omega oil, and bamboo extracts.

Ingredient List, Fragrance & Sunscreen Filters

Asides from Centella Asiatica and Sodium Hyaluronate, this sun cream doesn’t have the typical ingredients I usually see in Korean sunscreens. It is formulated with a bunch of plant extracts, including fragrance. They include:

• Purslane Extract
• Aloe Leaf Extract
• Soybean Extract
• Sunflower Seed Oil
• Mistletoe Leaf Extract
• Centella Asiatica Extract
• Sodium Hyaluronate
• Alcohol
• Fragrance

When a product is formulated with many plant extracts like this, often, the fragrance comes out with herbal/earthy tones. In this case, it’s not too overwhelming. It’s barely noticeable and dissipates after application.

As for the sunscreen filters, it is a hybrid sunscreen with five chemical filters and one physical/mineral filter. A few of them are more common in US/EU sunscreens so it was really a surprise to see them. The upside is these filters have a lot of research backing them. The downside is they are usually a hit or miss as they are typically associated with eye stings and irritations. They include:

• Octinoxate – for UVB protection
• Homosalate – also for UVB proetction
• Uvinul A Plus – for UVA protection
• Octocrylene – for both UVA & UVB protection
• Octisalate – for UVB protection
• Titanium Dioxide – for both UVA & UVB protection

With the sunscreen scandal in 2020, I honestly can’t blame Thank You Farmer for sticking with well-studied filters. They just sprinkled Uvinul A Plus, a new generation filter to spice it up and prove their progression.

All in all, this is a solid hybrid sunscreen with great filters. It would have been perfect without the fragrance and alcohol.

Texture & Consistency

This has the consistency of a lotion. It feels so soft and silky on application. It reminds me why Korean Skincare rules when it comes to cosmetic elegance. You literally enjoy the application process because it just so lovely. This product is touted as a cream but I feel like to cater across different skin types, they decided to make it a bit lightweight. This way even those with normal to combination skin can use it without a moisturizer.

Packaging, Pricing & Avaliabilty

It is packaged in a 50ml tube with a pointed applicator which makes it super easy and convenient to apply. It’s also very portable to travel with. But in terms of the pricing, the cheapest I’ve seen is $14 which is pretty reasonable for Korean and Japanese sunscreens. Anything over $15 for a 40 – 60ml product is considered expensive. It’s also nice to know that this is Thank You Farmer’s cheapest sunscreen.

Review of the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF 50+

For the record, my skin type is dry dehydrated. So I expect all my sunscreens to leave my skin moisturized with a dewy finish. Bonus points if there is no white cast. With that being said, I’m gonna be judging this sunscreen based on how well it worked for my skin type.

Pros

• Solid hydrid filters
• No white cast
• Non- greasy and non-sticky
• Moisturizing
• Doesn’t sting the eyes
• Can work across most skin types without the need for a moisturizer.
• Doesn’t pill; layers well under makeup and overskincare products.
• Takes a bit to absorbs completely into the skin but it eventually does.

Cons:

• Has alcohol and fragrance
• Dries down matte. All dewiness on application disappears.
• Not moisturizing enough for dry skin
• Not water-resistant or sweat-proof.

Perhaps my biggest shock about this sunscreen is how it doesn’t have a white cast even with Titanium Dioxide. I actively always avoid sunscreens with this filter because I’m not ready to struggle with the white cast. But I must say, Thank You Farmer formulated this product like a pro!

Finally,

If you can ignore the alcohol and slight fragrance, this is a very decent sunscreen. It will provide you with solid protection and on the days you can’t be bothered, you can totally skip the moisturizer and just use it by itself. If you wear makeup, it is completely fine to layer over it with piling. Unfortunately, if you have dry, dehydrated skin like me, it will fall short so I suggest you try something else.
