This post will share how trending topics boost your blog traffic.
My blog traffic has doubled in the last four months because I implemented a nifty little but often overlooked trick.
This tip has helped me qualify for Mediavine earlier than I expected, and of course, it has also boosted my blog income.
One of the foundations of blogging is creating evergreen content.
You want to write blog posts that will bring you sustainable traffic over a long period.
This is why it is understandable when people altogether avoid jumping on trends.
I was once like that as well. I felt trends were very fleeting and not worth the effort.
But sometimes, you need that boost in your blog traffic to reach your next goal.
Like many bloggers, I could not get into Mediavine during the pandemic.
I made it a priority and an immediate short-term goal with manageable expectations.
I gave myself 1-2 years to achieve it, and I did it before the end of the second year.
Sometimes, when you need to tick a goal off your to-do list, you must leave your comfort zone.
Tapping into trends is one way to do so.
Here Are Four Platforms You Can Find Trending Topics To Increase Your Blog Traffic
If there’s one constant on social media, it is trends.
They come and go and can also be negative or positive.
However, one thing is for sure: trends influence their target audience to take action.
Whether it’s a TikTok dance or the ‘clean girl makeup’, you honestly should not undermine the effectiveness of trends—or should I say ‘virality’?
So, if you’re looking to populate your blog content calendar, I suggest you make it much more flexible to include trending topics.
You can often see instant results, primarily through organic traffic, rather than evergreen non-trending topics.
Here are four social media platforms and search engines you need to pay attention to as a blogger:
TikTok Trends
I recently started spending an unhealthy amount of time on TikTok.
I deleted Instagram about two years ago, and I hardly watch YouTube videos except when I need slower tutorials.
That leaves Twitter, Reddit and TikTok as my primary social media platforms.
As someone who previously worked in social media, I naturally have an eye for noticing and picking up on things quickly.
So, when I scroll through my For You page and see several creators talking about the same thing, I automatically pick it up as a trend and note it.
Naturally, the more I watch specific videos, the more the algorithm serves similar content.
In May, I randomly decided to write a post about a product trending on TikTok.
About a month later, it started to trend on TikTok, and my traffic blew up.
The post, which was well optimised for SEO, ranked immediately on the first page of Google.
That singular post brought me about 5,000 views in one month.
Then I tried it again with a few other products and got the same results.
The current trending post on my blog has brought me over 10,000 page views in the last 28 days.
Again, don’t sleep on TikTok trends.
Many of us use the platform to relax, but you can also use it to boost your blog traffic, killing two birds with one stone.

Pinterest Trends
The official Pinterest Trends website was released about two years ago, five years late.
Before then, you had to look for trending topics on the search bar.
It was a bit hectic then, but now, there’s nothing as convenient as clicking on the Pinterest Trends website and logging in to see what topics are trending.
I know someone who created a blog to write about daily Pinterest trends in her niche.
That’s another way to fast-track the growth of a new blog.
But I’ve found that it is not sustainable for all your blog traffic to come from one platform.
It will affect you when you want to sign up for ad networks.
This strategy mainly works for specific Food, Fashion, Beauty, Home and Travel niches.
Depending on where your target audience is from, Google Trends provides insights into the U.S., U.K. and Canada markets.
So, use it to plan your content calendar and promote it on Pinterest.
Google Trends
Once in a while, I like to visit Google Trends to see upcoming trends that are just gaining momentum.
I haven’t used it as much as I should, but Google Trends has a longer lifespan than TikTok.
Where a TikTok trend would last for maybe two months, Google Trends stay for a lot longer, and you can track the progress.
Again, you shouldn’t expect too much from trends because they are fleeting and beyond your control.
Don’t base your entire content strategy on trends. Create evergreen, timeless content that will bring you sustainable traffic for years.
YouTube Trends
I know YouTube is probably in its flop era, but you can’t doubt its influence as the most extensive directory and search engine for videos.
If YouTube is your thing, I suggest you consider the trends there.
Watch videos relevant to your niche and learn what is trending.
Usually, when several creators are talking about the same thing, it is trending more often than not.
You can also plug your topics into the Google Trends website to get accurate data and analytics before deciding if the content is worth creating.
In Summary
Ultimately, trending topics occasionally help boost your blog traffic, mainly if your blog experiences seasonal dips.
Your goal should be to create sustainable evergreen content that is rewarding, establishes you as an authority and helps you achieve your blogging goals.
