This post will review the Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum.
In the last few months, the Beauty of Joseon brand, specifically the Relief Sun sunscreen and the Glow Serum, has gone viral thanks to TikTok.
This means there has been much more interest in the brand.
People have discovered how effective and affordable the products are and just want to try them out.
So far, I’ve used four products from the brand, which is now almost competing with Cosrx products. They include:
The plan is to use all four of the serums, and so far, I’ve used two, and this review will be my third one.
Next, I’ll try and get my hands on the Calming Serum to use and review.
These serums have been my go-to during the Summer as they are super lightweight and give me just enough hydration that I need.
Despite the small size, I love that they are affordable and you quickly run through them.
Nothing I hate more than serums that take forever to finish, making me quickly bored of them.
Beauty of Joseon is a Korean Skincare brand launched about five years ago.
They aim to combine Oriental medicine ingredients, which have been consumed for a long time, with modern ingredients to formulate effective products.
So far, based on my experience, I’d say the products have been pretty decent.
I’m halfway through the Glow Deep Serum, one of their newest serums, and I thought I should share my thoughts before I run out.
First Impressions of the Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum
According to Beauty of Joseon;
This serum is designed for those with concerns about pigmentation and uneven skin tone.
Containing 68% rice bran water and 2% alpha arbutin, it helps to improve skin tone to become brighter and healthier.
Ingredient List & Fragrance
One of the reasons why I was excited to try this serum was because of its brightening ingredients.
As always, I didn’t have too many expectations from this serum because I don’t think Korean Skincare products are that effective for hyperpigmentation.
They are mostly just excellent for hydrating and brightening uneven skin tone.
Notwithstanding, this serum has some good stuff, which includes;
- 68.6% Rice Bran Water
- 2% Alpha Arbutin
- Niacinamide
- Panthenol
- Coptis Japonica Root Extract
- Soybean Seed Extract
- Sesame Seed Extract
- Rice Extract, etc
As you can see, the primary brightening ingredients are Rice Bran Water, Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide.
The rest are soothing ingredients and antioxidants to support the key ingredients.
As I mentioned, I don’t have many expectations based on my experience using these ingredients, so I don’t expect it to deliver magically.
Alpha Arbutin takes forever to fade hyperpigmentation and is best paired with other Tyrosinase Inhibitors like Kojic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, Azelaic Acid, etc.
Still, it is good to finally see Korean brands ditch Beta Arbutin for Alpha Arbutin, which is more potent.
As always, this product is alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free. It is also vegan and cruelty-free.
Packaging, Texture & Consistency
This serum is packed in their signature 30ml dropper bottle.
It’s no different from the rest of the serums.
In terms of consistency, this one is more similar to the Repair Serum than the Glow Serum.
The former has a lightweight fluid texture that absorbs immediately into the skin.
The latter is sticky and takes forever to come out of the dropper.
As a result of the fluid consistency of the Glow Deep Serum, you’ll tend to run out more quickly, mainly if you use two complete pumps of product in the morning and evening.
To be honest, I love it. It layers well with other products and is very easy to apply.
Price & Availability
You can find any Beauty of Joseon serums online through Asian retailers. It is usually cheaper, and you can sometimes get it on sale.
Review of the Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum
So, I’ve been using this serum in my morning and evening routines.
I use it with 20% Azelaic Acid in the morning and 1% Retinol in the evening.
It pairs perfectly well with both products, with no irritations whatsoever.
I like to combine my tyrosinase Inhibitors because using a single one isn’t make any difference to my hyperpigmentation.
Performance
To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve noticed any difference with this serum.
It is a pretty forgettable serum, in my opinion.
It is not precisely very hydrating, and it will probably take longer with a few bottles to see any difference with your hyperpigmentation, so I’m not really a fan.
But with the heatwave happening this Summer, this is the perfect serum to use if you want to simplify your routine.
You can use it alone in the morning with Sunscreen or at night with your moisturizer.
Either way, you’re getting the benefits of the product.
At this stage of my skincare journey, I need more than just 2% Alpha Arbutin in my pigmentation serums.
So, it’s either the brands go hard or go home.
But this serum might be for you if you have normal to dry skin and struggle with mild to moderate hyperpigmentation.
Finally
I love using the Beauty of Joseon serums to supplement my main treatment serums.
They work well with almost any ingredients and are cosmetically elegant enough to layer well.
They are also cheap, so the hype is well-deserved.
As for this Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum, I probably would not repurchase it again.
